What did you do with your flock today?

I have been leaving before they come out of the coop because it is still dark. I went out this morning to check on them. This afternoon I am gong to continue to feed them food out of my hand. Some of my pullets aren't quite sure of me. Work has been so demanding I come home and crash. I need to go back to spending at least ten minutes a day with them looking for problems and enjoying their company. They lift a heavy heart!
I totally agree, chickens are so good for the heavy heart. Mine have been soothing my anxieties and heavy heart for over a year now. My work has been super demanding as well and they have been my saving grace. I hope things get better at work, and have faith, they will come around! My most skittish pullets are now daily visitors to my lap and chair! They may not want to be hugged and petted, but they love to sit with me. ❤️ :love

I think just watching them helps put things in perspective. Like, does all the crap really matter? What IS truly important? Bugs, roosting space a good preening and pals, especially when you are molting. Total life's lesson 🤣

Yes!! The simplicity and antics make everything else seem less important!

Such good helpers.
What wonderful boxes! Can't beat the price. My girls are a destruction crew. If I were to let my one black sexlink in my raised bed, the soil would quickly be out of the box. (Have already experienced this, so she is banned) Now, if she would make holes in a straight line, she could help me plant my potatoes.....

We all know how true this is. Hubby is currently installing a taller, larger, fenced area for daytime free ranging, to protect from coyotes, and give me more peace of mind, so I don't feel the need to be present and super in guard with the flock. They will often go to the edge of the woods, where predators lurk unseen.
How many of you have changed your layouts over even a couple of years?

Another day of cleaning up their poop with NO help from them! 🤨🤷🏻‍♀️😂

I then sat with them on this gorgeous autumn day. The high was almost 70 here in Maine today. Yup, not lying ha! My cockerel is getting more and more tame with me. You can see him pictured literally SUNBATHING on my legs 😂 they are all about 9 weeks give it take a few days
