What did you do with your flock today?

I spent time with my tiniest addition to my flock, Honeybunn. She is a silkie with a pretty bad leg deformity. She just hatched a few days ago and was an only chick, She has a little pink stuffed friend in her brooder with her. Sadly she only gets my attention for now until she's strong enough and big enough to go in with our other babies.

I want her! 🥰 She’d be the perfect companion for my handicapped polish girl.

I love the chicken pile! It’s so cute when they’re all big and floofy and still cram together in a pile 😍

My babies had to spend most of today locked up in their coop, and it was HOT today (ick!!). So I have them ice packs, watermelon, watercress, and turned on the misters this afternoon. I can’t imagine being all covered in feathers when it’s 102 outside! 🥵🥵
Thanks!
Aw, poor birds. Hopefully it'll start cooling down soon.
What a photo @FrankieDoodle ! Makes my heart go pitter patter ♡ beautiful pileup.

Boo! Hot weather bites. So sorry @kurby22
May it pass quickly and your flock forgive you!! The good news is they are pretty young and can handle better than us old farts.

I am up the mountain so I don't know if anymore have hatched. My DH will be back down in a few with an update and hopefully photos. I will head down Wednesday if needed.

Forest has his ✂️🥚🥚 appointment on Friday. 🙀
I love this pic! 🥰 Iris looks like two birds instead of just one.
Thank you!

She's so cute!

Agreed! I’m over this summer, and just want temps under 100 in September. That’s seems like a reasonable ask! 😩 it’s just depressing!
It has been a long hot summer!

The drought is causing issues with wells going dry too. The last time it was this bad was 1977.

It has…it was so hot today I couldn’t even go out to hang out with the chickies today 😩😩 I feel so bad but it was just SO hot I couldn’t make myself do it. They have all the things to help them but it’s tough to escape 104 degree heat!

All I could manage to do is take care of the biggest issue…grain weevils in my quail feed!! SO disgusting to dump a 50 lb bag of feed into the container only to see it moving with black bugs 🤢🤢 I took some suggestions on here and transferred all the feed into giant ziploc bags and stuck them in the freezer. Hoping they all die by tomorrow and then the quail can enjoy nice cold food with added protein. Right?? 😁 I have 18 quail still in the house growing out and I am NOT feeding them buggy food! Haha. I can’t WAIT for Fall weather!! 🥵

Yuck! Buggy food @kurby22 . I micro mine and then put in freezer... but that is for worms. Sorry about your feed.
Good fun @penny1960 . I hope you enjoy! Stay safe and well..
Went down the mountain to bring more mulch and deal with eggs in the incubator- make a decision to put in new batch or?? but had another pip so let it ride. Was not sure if it had pipped and DH did not notice and then shrink-wrapped when he took last chick out. His eyes are bad and he won't put on a pair of glasses lol... I did stay the night and woke early to chirping! So DH is out of the doghouse 😂
I need to go down again for Forest kitty's appointment tomorrow morning ✂️. Will see if I get that 1 last pip b4 clearing out incubator and readying it for the small batch of BB eggs I have set aside.
The drive is about 15 miles or 30 minutes to home... but easily 10° cooler and that makes a huge difference and certainly worth it. I still do my best to conserve gas and wear n tear but lately... have not been so great.
Today tree trimmer #3 is coming to put in his bid for the tall Lollybob pines that line the property. So hopefully they will be trimmed and beautifully safe soon.
What I did for the flock today was to clean out DHs fridge and bring them old papaya, banana and spaghetti noodles. They only got a spaghetti noodle treat so far. Dessert first right?
K. Gunna let the gang out to play for a few hours. Have an awesome day all!
