What did you do with your flock today?

Yesterday I made the trec w/o DH to pick up my new/used bator.

I also was able to (remember) to pick up the cage I loaned the sweet gal who bought Bolt and crew (total of 6) chooks from me and the poor thing suffered a dog attack to her coop and flock and lost all but 1. She was so upset to tell me... but one thing that we have learned through our own hard lessons is it comes with the chicken keeping. We have hardly any predators but we do have good weather and crappy dog owners galore obviously. I am pretty sure I have Bolt DNA in my incubator now so in and othe 1.5 weeks we shall see. If I had gotten my act together sooner I would have had pure dark brahmas. Now, to get on island... it will be a little harder. Oh well, we will see what we can do.
Friend who sold me the bator also offered me some of his chooks. I am considering 2 Cornish crosses as a rescue. He is having trouble with wild pigs killing his chickens so has these two badly caged. Think DH would hit the roof but it haunts my heart to see these 2 like this.

In my immediate chicken world. Moved the laying pullets out of the mini coop along with cockerel and gave them the low on the totem pole roost in the main coop. Had to move a fat senior hen who decided she liked her space lol. Boy she was fat when I picked her up... anywho, young adults looked pretty happy about that move and baby lights looked pretty happy about their solo digs too. So, guess we shall see what sticks...

On the cockerel with a bump on his lid and the FTT... well, no one got culled yet lol. I did decide to move FTT into a pen because I got tired of watching her have to dodge every aggressor. So she can safely keep Bumpy company. I'll give him another look see when I have some time in the next few days but I don't think things have gone in a better direction. His feather condition cuz scratching but all over does not look great.

I had been checking my chickens butt for the past few days because I had been seeing a 'bump' on one of theirs.
today I checked again and looked a bit under it and there was a gap.. turns out the 'bump' was the outside of their vent  and I was looking at the vent the whole time panicking as to why they had a bump on their butt
im so stupid:th
You're not stupid. You were just trying to take good care of your flock. Nothing wrong with that and learning in the process.

You have been a busy bee!! I'm so sad to hear that Bolt and his ladies came to such a sad end! :( Neighbor dogs seem to be the worst offenders to chickens of any predators. We haven't had any sightings of the coyote thank goodness! I can understand why she felt awful breaking the news to you--I have not inquired about any of the roosters I have rehomed for that reason...I'm afraid of the possible answers. I know they went to good homes but stuff happens and I am happier thinking they are living a great life somewhere else.

I'm glad you went to get your incubator and I totally get why you want to bring home those poor little Cornish Crosses. Is he not planning to eat them? If not, I would probably want to save them too! I hope FTT and Bumpy both make it! I'm rooting for them...especially FTT! :love

I love all the space you have! I can't wait for the day when I will have all the room my heart desires!
