What did you do with your flock today?

I think my blind chicken Honey is going to be a learning curve for me! I get so worried about her because she is SO mellow. But I’m starting to figure out that she’s slow in the AM before the sun is fully out and slow in the PM as soon as the sun starts to set. I’m sure it’s because it gets too dark for her to see and so she thinks it’s night time much longer than the other chickens! Sleepy chickens act half dead and every evening I have found her cuddled up in the same spot while everyone is still foraging and busy…and she barely moves! So then I pick her up and she acts like she’s not all there! 🤪 But from about 9:30-3:30 she walks around, squawks, and forages with the rest of them. I’m sort of bummed because she was supposed to help with my hen numbers with Puff and Fluff, but I don’t think I can because she would likely get over mated since she’s so timid and slow. I’m not sure what to do for her, she sees well when it’s bright out but can’t get to bed because of the ladders and ramps after darkness starts! I don’t NEED another coop…but…🤪🤪🤪

I also took a couple pics today 😍 I bought some egg cartons because we are drowning in eggs…the past week or so ALL the quail started laying…so I’m getting about 10 eggs a day from them! Must find ways to offload eggs 😆 The last picture is 5 dozen eggs and we have another 4.5 dozen in the egg holder 😳 I know they are small so you need a lot…but still! 🥚🍳🥚🍳🥚🍳

The babies moved themselves into the Santa’s coop tonight. I have a very specific order when it comes to locking the coops up, so imagine my surprise when I found two extra birds in coop #3. XD
It took me off guard and completely threw everything off. They’ve been eyeballing the Santa’s coop since their first few visits outside, but they’ve been increasingly curious now that they actually have access, so it was only a matter of time.

They seem to get along pretty well. I’ve only ever seen them fight twice, once with each baby. Both times it was one of the babies starting drama with the big girls, and the big girls giving them a warning peck that sent them running. Both SFs love the babies, so I’m hoping there won’t be any issues when they get up tomorrow. :fl

Those babies are adorable! And Honey sounds like a sweetheart. ❤️

Also, I saw movement in one of the pigeon eggs. :wee They’ve already grown so much. I found a chart of eggs 0-14, so it’s been fascinating to compare.
Aaand some pictures I don’t think I’ve posted yet.

Isn’t it fun when they find their friends? I have my Swedish crew and within one full day of introducing Elsafish my Hedamora to the Olandsk Dwarfs, she had moved into their coop and hasn’t looked back! Snob 😆 I think the Banty Coop is full of too many timid chicks! Elsafish likes her assertive rooster now! We call him Little Dude 🥰 He’s a bossy little twit but very aware of me and talks and squawks…it’s kind of ridiculous 🤪😆

@kurby22 your Honey sounds very much like Manono. Manono comes to me to put her up to the nest box ledge where she feels best sleeping. It is a little different but I love her as she likes to be closer to me and always comes when I call. She is also more comfortable and terrific around the babies so I pare her up with them. I call her the nanny ♡

Well my P. Peaches who I thought got skewered by Spiders spur is actually in the middle of a nasty molt and it was a broken feather that bled. She seems so miserable I was thinking about housing her separate from the flock cept she is not interest in being locked out of the run. Looking forward to this being over and her pretty new feathers soon.

Think I found a new person for my LB cockerel. Nice people, beautiful property. I hope it is a good fit. ♡

K. night all or Aloha ahiahi! Stay well!

Thank you!

Definitely! The SFs have always been around other birds, but something about S & C have made them so much happier. I don’t think they fully got over Coco. That being said they’re chickens, so I might just be projecting lol.

I love their names! Especially Little Dude. XD
