What did you do with your flock today?

@kurby22 your Honey sounds very much like Manono. Manono comes to me to put her up to the nest box ledge where she feels best sleeping. It is a little different but I love her as she likes to be closer to me and always comes when I call. She is also more comfortable and terrific around the babies so I pare her up with them. I call her the nanny ♡

Well my P. Peaches who I thought got skewered by Spiders spur is actually in the middle of a nasty molt and it was a broken feather that bled. She seems so miserable I was thinking about housing her separate from the flock cept she is not interest in being locked out of the run. Looking forward to this being over and her pretty new feathers soon.

Think I found a new person for my LB cockerel. Nice people, beautiful property. I hope it is a good fit. ♡

K. night all or Aloha ahiahi! Stay well!
Yeah, I wish I had a separate space I could put Honey and all the babies, as I think she would be very happy with them. Manono sounds like a wonderful girl, sweet and special. It is different, but fills my heart to give her love. I'm not saying the lady before me neglected her by any means, she's a happy and very healthy girl--but they had no idea she was blind and she is very thin. I am not sure she easily finds the food bins...the feed is all one color so I think she may just not see it. Not sure how I can fix that without messing with the food too much. I bought a new feeder that will be outside (hoping the rat isn't too smart) that is red and white as it seems that she is able to see red and white better than other colors.

Ohhh poor P. Peaches!! Molting is a really brutal thing for chickens...too bad she isn't content being alone because she would be much more comfortable! Chickens, man. :)

Yay new home for LB!! I hope so too! :celebrate

Yeah, manono does well on her own. Maybe (haha, easy for me to say) you can carve out enough space for a mini run in your run?
I even put Manono in the play brooder ( or a playpen?) with the chicks where she was content and could eat freely. I also fill dishes for Manono as her perception is off so she will miss her mark when pecking and it frustrates her and if the is another girl around, she will get the prize. I house Manono separate for a long time but being she was a FTT it was easier to spot her special needs.
I'm looking forward to Honeys story and am so glad she landed with you where she will have a good life. ♡

Yippee!

Will plant tonight. :yesss:

Without going into too many gross details, Iris’ foot got 100x worse, and I finally got a scalpel and did surgery on him. I wish it didn’t have to come to that, but literally nothing else I did helped, and it got to the point where he would’ve lost his leg in a matter of days/weeks, the poor boy. : (
I was working on it for a couple hours before I had to call it a night. I’ll have to do it again tomorrow, and then the day after that depending on how tomorrow goes, but I think I got a lot of it out. He’s now inside, which is going to be super fun tomorrow morning.
He was such a good boy the entire time. I wouldn’t have been able to do it if it was anyone else.
I’m now no longer worried to do surgery on more “normal” bumblefoot, if it comes down to it. After dealing with Iris, I’m sure everything else would be a walk in the park. XD

On a different note, the babies have still been sleeping with the Santa’s. I’ve noticed them hanging out together in the daytime a little more than normal, so it’s nice to see they’re getting along well.

Yeah I am going to keep an eye on her and see how she adjusts. She had more food in her crop today and managed to find the hard boiled eggs I gave them as a treat this afternoon. The bantam run isn’t really big (9.5 ft x 23 ft) but big enough…and she was foraging and acting normal most of the day :) It’s definitely going to take her time to memorize where stuff is and feel comfortable with the new friends she sleeps with 😍

My Molly has decided it is her turn to go broody, so I am letting her sit on a couple of her own eggs and see how things go! My bantam buff Brahma hatching eggs are due to hatch around 2 days before she will be at 21 days with her eggs. So I may try to slip her a Brahma chick too especially if hers don’t hatch. She and Emilio are both blues so I could maybe get a splash! Would be fun 😍 Likely another blue 😆 but I can hope haha. I’m gonna have a very blue flock at this rate! So many blue chickens!

I also let the babies and their surrogate mommas out for a few mins of foraging and it was adorable 🥰 I just love watching chickens be mommas! 😍😍

My EHAL eggs are coming along! They go into lockdown on Tuesday afternoon, I like to let shipped eggs have an extra day with no turning so they can get into position better. Because I have three separate sets of eggs to hatch, I’m going to be using my other cheapo incubator for lockdown. Right now I see 4 strong and well developed eggs in the bantam EE batch, and 4 very lively eggs in the d’Anver batch. I would sure love to see all 8 make it! The buff Brahma bantams are rather slowly developing…I got 6 eggs and only 3 are developing thus far. I sure hope a couple more get going.

Lastly, Miyuki went into the vet today and somehow we missed the fleas she had EVERYWHERE 🥺🤢 The vet said it’s pretty common for kittens to have them, but man how did I miss something like that?? They were visibly crawling in her fur 🤢🤢🤢 Plus she has tapeworms 🥺 I feel like such a bad kitty mom 😩 So she got medicine to ingest to kill fleas and the tapeworms, then flea meds on her skin, plus her feline leukemia vaccine. Poor girl is very much not feeling great tonight. Sucks, we had to strip all the beds, all the dog beds and blankets, and I had to buy flea med carpet powder and a flea and tick spray so I can spray down her cat towers. Plus we had to get the dogs more flea meds too. Was a spendy visit!! She was also not a fan of the crate or the car ride 😒 but she would get in the crate on her own while we were there at the vet 😆 such a silly girl.

Oh! Also, I was able to sell two more of my male quails and 2 dozen fertile eggs. Yay! I had a huge surplus of males and it’s much better now, plus I got money for them 😁

Gotta sleep now, we have an insanely busy day tomorrow! But here are some fun pictures!

So sorry to hear about Iris @FrankieDoodle . But I am so proud of you for doing the hard work and doing what needs to be done. Iris is such a trooper and a good boy and now we can add good patient to his list.
I hope tomorrow is a successful day and the last of this problem 🙏🤞🤞🤞

@kurby22 your babies are so big! Love the sounds of your blue flock and best of luck with all of those hatches. Juggle, juggle, juggle lol.
Oh yes... the vet. 🤦‍♀️ a vet visit for our horses cost less than our cats and dogs it seems. And that is with travel. I now buy our flea meds online and it saves a bundle.

Well, I sold my Light B. Cockerel and a few dozen eggs today so, made 1/2 of this month's feed bill.
Princess Peaches is going through a hideous molt. My poor baby, she is a little miserable blotchy pincushion. Even her wings are balding 🙁

I got my seeds planted and a few more boards for the blind.
Going to go candle my eggs now. Have a great weekend all!

Oh my!! Poor P. Peaches!! That does look rough :-( I can’t imagine what that must feel like, poor girl!

Yeah we usually get ours online too…but as busy as we are, we forget so we pay for the 3 months chews. They’re made for forgetful people like me 😆
