What did you do with your flock today?

Beigie has been deemed well enough to spend the last two days out on the deck. I’m still not comfortable moving her fully outside while he has open wounds, but everything seems to be healing up pretty nicely.

Today I snatched Molly up to hang out with her. It was only then that I realized none of the other birds had seen her since Wednesday morning, and assumed she died, lol. Poor Molly looked terrified when I put her in, and was a little sketchy for a few hours before she accepted her “fate.” Beigie was really happy to have company, and Molly was pretty content to eat Beige’s snacks. XD

I think one of the funniest parts of this, is that Beigie is currently my oldest bird. So as far as anyone else knows, she’s just been around since the beginning of time. Everyone is going to worship her after she gets reintegrated, lol.

Beige looks really good! Terrific job @Frankie! You are such a good papa ♡
Im sure you are right, she will get Rockstar status when she returns. Chickens are awesome.

My friend used a dollar bill to get his rooster to jump up. Pretty cute.

Good to hear of your quick mend @PJ

Well, as the leaf falls in the forest here... The flock seems to be terrific. Had their first freerange opportunity the eve b4 last and 2 outings yesterday. They seem content in their run for the most part, at the moment. One thing that is kind of fun and refreshing is the climate change and their behavior. Last night they all went to roost together in the trailer coop. I even ran back to the cabin to get my phone and figured out how to turn on the flash- just to mark the moment.

It is a little shocking to me as the underlings have been allowed to roost with the matriarchs... un-accosted. Maybe it is just because this is new-to-them turf? Maybe because it is rather cool at nights? Whatever it is, I think it's great. Mater of fact, this goofball trailer coop is quite popular and sometimes some or all the flock just hangs out during the day. Something I have never seen them do before 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ever.

Manono, the only buff I brought up hiding her nest under the trailer because she is special ♡

Also, pullets are taking apart the top nest boxes and I found a few eggs I was not sure who's they were. So, if not yet, any second now for my pullets to start laying. :jumpy:ya:jumpy:ya:ya

Such a beautiful flock of Chickens. It seems so strange that your climate is changing already. We still have at least another month and maybe two of heat here in Ohio. I am actually looking forward to cooler days so my Drakes will cool down towards the Hens, lol. Congratulations on your pullets laying!!!! That is always so exciting!!!

Ah! Sorry to confuse you. I live in a low level hot and humid climate but last summer (trial) and this summer I brought the large 1/2 of my flock "up the mountain" to stay cool during the worst heat... and for me to get some extra chore done on the cabin up here and for my Buff Roo to mate the buff hens down there so I can do 2 clean hatches. Lots to unpack with that one lol. Our winters a few thousand feet below @ 9' above sea level are not as cool as the summer up here. So, it is a real reprieve for us all. ♡

I keep my flock much differently here vs there and how folks keep their chooks on the mainland makes way more sense to me haha!

It doesn't take much to confuse me my friend, lol. That is great that you can find a cooler place to go to when the heats on. I sure wouldn't mind that here. I drive a school but and when it is in the 90's it is unbearable. All those little sweaty bodies including my own, lol. Your flock is very lucky that you are that thoughtful of them.

Well, they are part of my excuse to come and be able to stay for a few 3 months. So I am basically hiding behind my chickens  and using them forsure! Very big of me lol. But yes, lucky. Just can't do heat like I used to.

Oh yes, little efficient heaters on the bus. Bless your heart 🙏

Tell us about your flock ♡!

Quiet day getting the garden ready to plant...and because I'm impatient, I did plant some cucumbers.

Yesterday we finished raking up the mesquite pods. My beautiful youngest helped me with that huge chore. We filled an entire pallet compost bin with them!

Took some yoko pictures today.

And then the sunset. I missed the best part of sunset today...but it always pleases me anyhow.

Aloha kids,
I woke up at 2am and have been thumbing through byc the last hour. Cats have me outnumbered on my little bed so I'm just gunna give up on sleep for a bit. They also stole my blanket and jacket... if they follow me to my chair, I'm gunna run back to the bed lol. It is chilly.
So figured I would show off Faiths 2nd egg. I really like this girl and this egg is further proof that her momma must be my RSL and pops my (RIP) big beautiful Dark Brahma, Bolt. Really nice combo.

Flock got some supervised free ranging 2x's. Forest, I swear, thinks he is a chicken herder, he has a constant watch on the chickens all day long

it is really dry up here. I need a pipe wrench and possibly a vise to fix my sprinkler. So gotta take it down the mountain when I go down. That and a Sawzall to finish off the tree I started but found a heavy gauged wire buried deep in the trunk. Don't want to ruin my chainsaw blade any further than I already have. Ugh things move slowly up here. But did rake and pick up a small mountain of pine cones and needles, over 1/2 way done with that chore. No fire till we get some rain (or sprinklers) 20220727_091826.jpg
