Crossing the Road
Wow!! ONE day on poultry?? I’m starting to feel like as a chicken owner I could make a great chicken nurse I still couldn’t do anything requiring surgeries, but I feel like I’ve done all the things (I never thought I could do) for my chickens! I think it’s super cool you are able to participate and offer insights! No risk at all in the time I've been using it - which is just over a year. You only need to use a very small amount at a time. Between that, poop picking in the coop every morning and Digestihealth, I've never had cleaner, drier coops.
It's a great course, so far. In the U.K, a vet trains for 5 years and spends just one day on poultry health. Vet nurses get no training at all. It's no wonder our vets are really reluctant to treat pet chickens. There are a few specialist avian vets but they're scattered all over the country.
I'm not training to be a vet or nurse, I'm taking part to help evaluate how useful it is and if they're covering the right things for domestic chicken keepers. It's fascinating though and I'm learning a lot! It's aimed at existing vets so some of it is quite challenging.
I will get some Biotin and maybe give one selenium pill to get her a bit now. I definitely had the wrong Bio-Dri :-D
I really appreciate all your suggestions and assistance!
Haha you should hear my backyard every morning! 10 roosters crowing, male quail crowing, the inside the house rooster crowing, and my kids yelling and fighting. It’s SO relaxing to wake up toGood morning gang & Happy Thursday!
We had another fabulous sunset last eve. I did not walk out front to get a photo but admired it from the yard as I raked leaves and chicken poop in the yard. I absolutely think the volcano is largely responsible for the wonderful colors as our winds have been from the south and that blows the vog our way.
The winds switch back to trades today.
Chooks are all pretty healthy and drama free. Have not done a photo shoot of new guy yet. He is a passive sweetheart and i enjoy him but not the extra crow 2 boys is enough ♡♡
Today I will scrape boards, fill feeders and scrub waters, then get back to bags. Yesterday I did the logos for the big stand, it gets placed tomorrow -1 more to go, painting, logos and sewing all bags but hoping to have that done by midweek next week- Also, need to sew bags to freshen up the 4 stands I have had out. Hoping December is a good month. Last big push for awhile. Tired of being behind and ready for a bit of a catch up break.
Will get a photo of Spider art when the sun and my dh rise.
Ruby roo is in the house this week so I can control his dry feet better. He’s getting daily pedicures with thick applications of Vaseline with cocoa butter and he crows a LOT I think he’s very annoyed with me Today they all get baths in preparation of the trip to Paso for the poultry show! It’s currently raining so the outside birds should be a lovely mess tonight. Tomorrow morning I will have 4 roosters in the house…it’s good my husband loves me lots
Okay cool, I will get some more of the PDZ and use it specifically in that coop so it goes further. I bought some once and caught the chickens eating it constantly so I got nervous and quit buying it! Seriously, they try to eat ANYTHING!https://duckduckgo.com/?q=sweet+pdz+horse&ia=web
Here is a link for the zeolite we can get in the US. I buy the one for horse stalls. Same ingredient, just more economical than the one labeled Sweet Coop. Works great, I sprinkle heavily on top added shavings, after cleaning out poops. Won't hurt if it gets eaten, but granules are tiny. You know, chickens will try to eat anything interesting. They do love styrofoam, and I have chased them down to take it from them. Yeah, in my condition, not a pretty sight. That was before DH put the fenced ranging area in.
Ohhh for that view again! I grew up in Idaho and I miss the snow and winter weather SO much! I hate the heat so much so living here in the summer is seriously torture. The very minute we retire we will be moving north to cooler weather, snow, and more land! Woohoo! There is a lot to do recreationally. We don't like to visit Seattle unless it's to the International District in the daytime for dim sum and restock my Chinese pantry groceries. We love it here on Kitsap. I can have chickens, garden, enjoy the clean air (except in the summer when wildfire smoke fills the air), and am close to fishing, crabbing, clams, oysters, etc. If I did snow sports, that's also relatively close. You must have a lot of land, now. We have less than an acre, but it's more than enough to manage. This morning's view from my bed:
