What did you do with your flock today?

What a little bugger that pony was! We had a pony too for years. She was 3 when we got her and it took three people to catch her. That first year she'd periodically try to bite me in the face...good thing for all of us that she never succeeded! My youngest trained her for riding and used to ride her all over when she was still little and that little horse would always try to swing under low branches to scrap the load off her back. But by then she'd also come running if you whistled, steal treats from your pocket (and beer if you set one down) and if you called and started running, she'd thunder up, race past, circle and run with you. She was just a joy.

O ..Mochi just has to be ok! He's such a gorgeous little doll. Hoping he's found already or soon!

That mulch looks devine! Bet the chooks are in heaven searching it for goodies. ❤️ All our trees here have the tiniest leaves you've ever seen. Worthless...lol. If we want mulch we have to run the wood chipper or visit the store. Might be why I like turning the dirt. 🤣
Oh! She sounds a real character, absolutely full of personality! My old English teacher had their ear bitten off by a pony. I'm so glad your little equine didn't manage to get your face!
I remember my horsey friends and I trying to teach a non-horsey friend to ride. The pony we put her on was the most ridiculously docile plod. You could barely make him trot most of the time. Well, she was no sooner on his back than the little bugger took off across the field at a full-on gallop and leapt the 5ft post and rail! Needless to say, thst was the end of riding lessons for her 🤣

Well, it’s late so I will have to go back and read these hopefully tomorrow. I got up this morning and it was -1 outside. And I had to build a goat house. It isn’t done but we spent from 10 this morning until 5 tonight on it. It is really close but luckily they do have a little dog igloo to sleep in and they all fit in just fine.

I also have a new layer. I have no idea who it is because of course I was so busy and the one I think it might probably isn’t it either. So I guess I wait to see if I catch her. But she laid and olive looking egg. It’s darker green than the Easter Egger egg. But I didn’t think I had an olive egger. Maybe you guys can help me out and tell me if this is olive or not. And of course once I figure out who it is I can take a picture of her too.

I also tried to candle to one egg Salt laid but I couldn’t see through any of it. Ok cracked it open today and it was a double yolker but the yolks were what you would find in a normal size egg. Normally I have found that when there is 2 yolks that they are smaller. So it was kinda cool to see.
Beautiful eggs! Your new egg is about the same shade that Alice, our other Shetland, laid. Shetlands lay various shades of blue and blue-green eggs mostly (birds from the island of Foula lay white for some reason). I'd describe it as blue-green or pale green as it says in the Shetland "standard". I'd expect olive to be a darker shade but I've never had an Olive Egger so I'm not really qualified to say!

Mochi showed up! After my third walk up and down our street calling and calling, I came home and he was in the yard sharking with the other cats. I am so thrilled as I was feeling sick and very sad. I'm not capable of handling the loss of any of my young kitties. My old Marley will be hard enough in a few years.
Shut my chooks up in the coop this eve. Nice and blustery out there tonight. Tomorrow should be the same.

Glad ya found Mochi!!!

Yall I'm so behind!!! I doubt I catch up here so please forgive me!

We had our family Christmas yesterday and my son-in-law helped me take the 1 yr old and oldest grandson out to tuck all the babies in at dark...and wouldn't ya know with all that I missed someone or the coop door didn't get shut all the way one...in looking at the camera I see poor Lizzie huddled up in the nest box!
Poor girl!!!
All the Buff babies are doing so well with going inside the coop with the big babies!
Middle grandson reminded me I still haven't gotten a pic of them in the sleigh I got em!
So that's on the agenda this week now that the rain has dried up...but now we are frigid!
For King and Country concert tonight for oldest grandson birthday...how many 4 yr olds you know want that for a present!

I’m not really sure either. But I know I don’t have any Shetlands. I was thinking maybe olive because of how dark it is compared to the other, which is MUCH lighter. And when I looked up what it would look like, there were various shades of dark green. Honestly though I really don’t think my pictures show how dark it really is. Maybe if I took it outside to take a picture with natural light… 🤷‍♀️

All around I hope you had a great Christmas with the family! And around here I could see maybe one or 2 but I can’t promise they would want that for their birthday. That is cool! My oldest was asked once what she wanted for her birthday when she was 6. She didn’t have very many words but what she could say I understood rather well. This particular year all she wanted for her birthday….was CHIPS. Yes chips. So I went to the store, bought her chips and wrapped them. She was the happiest little girl opening those bags of chips. 🤣

So I took it outside in hopes of getting a better picture. The darker one is the one I’m referring to. The other is from my for sure Easter Egger. I don’t think it still gives the color justice but it is for sure a much darker color.

I went outside this morning to get everybody water and make sure food was good. Goats were alive and well, which yes I have worried. More for YupYup cause the 2 new ones have been pretty close and 2 against one isn’t always good. But then went to the ducks and there is a leak in their pond. I think when I was busting the ice for them I must have put a whole in it somewhere, I just don’t know where. So until warmer weather comes our way the ducks won’t have a pond. But they will be fine. They have a pretty good drinking water tub and they play in that. I might bring out the kiddy pool for them when temps aren’t too terrible. But with -5 degree weather coming, without wind chill, I am not messing with a pond.

She was a real ham. My youngest was a little diapered micro-kid when we got her and we lost her around a year ago. Think she was my favorite of the horses.
I had to look up Shetland chickens. Such pretty birds! Any idea if they're related to cream legbars?

I'm so glad Mochi showed up! You once posted the most beautiful picture of him. Our little fur babies never live long enough as it is, but it's always better when they pass at a natural time.

Can't wait to see the sleigh chickens! That sounds so cute 😍

My youngest had a thing for hard plastic toys when she was small. Her bedtime cuddle toy was a hard plastic car for the longest time. She wanted a pet dinosaur and that's all she ever asked for for gifts...so one year I found these big, hard dinosaur toys that moved and made noise and we started buying her one every year. She was sooo thrilled! Turns out they were limited editions and they only made them for one year, then the next year they'd make a new design. Now the old ones are worth some money! Of course hers are all broken to some degree from hard play, but she still keeps them all lined up on a shelf and can tell you the current cost of each 🤣❤️

That is awesome!!! At least they were played with and loved. I pretty much stopped buying my younger 2 girls toys. They are 6 and 5. They don’t play with what they got and I’m tired of spending the money on things they don’t appreciate or even play with. They do get toys but it’s more in hopes that they will play with one or 2 of them. I don’t understand it. They don’t have any electronic devices and tv is off most of the day. Hoping things start turning around.
