What did you do with your flock today?

Well today we went and got 2 more goats. They don’t have names yet, though my husband has tried a few, I just am not sure yet. They are glued to each other and YupYup isn’t sure about them being around me. Time, time is all I need, but sometimes feels like I don’t have enough of it.
Goat ballet! I love it when they rear at each other, so adorable. They are gorgeous! Yup Yup will be besotted with them soon enough ❤️

I think a new pullet is laying, as I find the egg just outside the box, and a couple in the run or coop lately. My cockerel Ertugrul sure looks huge! I'll try to get a picture comparison. I think he may be taking after his grampa, who was a huge cream legbar that I was told stood 24" tall.
Wow! That's one big chicken! When we went to collect our ex-batts, the re-homing place had truly enormous brahmas wandering loose. DH says he doesn't even remember seeing them. He stopped the car to allow them to cross the track! Honestly! He is so unobservant at times  It can come in handy at times though...

If they don't eat it, they excavate it. My poor primrose patch is no more. Now that they are in theyr own space, maybe my flower beds can be replanted and stay nice. I have the cat to catch the bunnies that like to eat stuff down to the ground, sometimes.
Hmm, don't count on it. I went out to check on everyone after lunch only to find them all in my main flowerbed (which has 3 ft high bird netting round it). More impressively, I'd left them shut in the run. It's fully netted and 7ft tall. I suspect Ferdy has already learnt to open the new catch on the gate.
I used to grow magnificent hosta and was assured chickens don't like them. Ha! Mine consider them to be a delicacy greater than white truffle. Can't blame losing all my primrose on them though, the vine weevil murdered those 🤬

Youngest kids kitty has decided this present is hers ...she's spending most her time perched on it and smacking any other pet that comes near 🤣 Her names MoonSugar, but hubby calls her Walter :idunno View attachment 3352588
I love that little black nose. So cute 😍
Elli found all his Christmas presents last night. DH put them in the hallway while looking for the Christmas Tree lights. Came out of one of the bedrooms to find him sprawled on his back covered in them🤣
He literally had to fight him to retrieve them.
He then went downstairs to discover Grace had been eating the pine needles from the tree in his absence and was puking all over the rug. Gross!

Don't know how I missed this one. OMGoodness absolute cuteness. Congratulations! 😍😍😍

Tami was having fun with the goat today. They're definitely becoming each others favorites. Mina has a thing for trying to eat our hair and poor Tami lost a chunk to her 🤣. The lady we got her from really did a lovely job with her. She's a very sweet and affectionate little girl.View attachment 3352360View attachment 3352361View attachment 3352362View attachment 3352363View attachment 3352364
I LOVE your little zoo. Just right sized. Don't know how you keep from collection more cute things. Such restraint 😂

Welp. Yesterday was a hard labor day lol. After about another 5- 50g's in the neverending puka I stopped to go up Koke'e to drop clean linen and towels and to pick up mulch. Got home, a few more barrels of dirt in puka and and no progress to brag about. So DH put a lid on it and I proceeded to smooth out my chicken run and put the mulch from Koke'e. Then ran off to clean family graves and place flowers.
Came home in the dark and Santa was ontop of the garden arbor. Did not think much of it till 1am when the leading edge of coldfront hit. Wow. Thunder, lightning, full rain deluge. So I tried to scare him off, no luck, had to get the ladder out and was able to grab him and stick him in a brooder. He seemed grateful after the initial scare. We got almost/at least 2" within the matter of a few hours.

Back tracking a little, about 8-9pm some piece of s#*+ let off 9 aerial fireworks that sent the cats scrambling. That and the big show of weather I have not been able to find Mochi, my blind kitty. I'm pretty much very concerned and asking Saint Francis for some help on this one. My poor baby, I hope he is just tucked away somewhere tight and just sleeping in. It is still raining pretty good but still, he has a boyish figure to maintain and his mommy needs him.

With DH being a down soldier, little sleep and a sore back, gale force winds from the south expected in 6-8 hours... I feeling stretched. I need my Mochi fix and want him in my sights safely wrapped in a blanket purring. I think that is understandable.

K. That was a big whine lol.
On the most excellent news side of things, after removing a ton of dirt and lowering my run level significantly, the adding of mulch was just in time and looks fabulous- even though I need a few more loads that I'll get to bumbai- Main thing is it smells fresh and I have a good & plentiful source.

Chooks all look and sound good after yesterday's sneezes. Still keeping the 3 littles separate. Still using vitamins.
I love the rain and dramatic weather. So awesome even if it is a bit of a pain.

Oh he was! Pure white apart from 3-4 dapples on one shoulder. He was called Sampson and was a real gentle giant. He was absolutely terrified of newspaper. I adored him. Although technically he was a show horse, he could plough, was ridden and could jump - if the mood took him!

Little bugger! But ponies are often sneakier than horses in my experience. When l used to help show my friend's welsh ponies, the little sods were always taking sly bites out of us, the dogs, cats...you name it. Once, my friend's little sister was in first place on one of them at a show - until the pony snaked his neck round and sunk his teeth into her leg. Fastest I've ever seen a competitor go from first to last place. Of course my friend blamed little sis all the way home. Said she shouldn't have screamed and attracted the judge's attention! 🤣
What a little bugger that pony was! We had a pony too for years. She was 3 when we got her and it took three people to catch her. That first year she'd periodically try to bite me in the face...good thing for all of us that she never succeeded! My youngest trained her for riding and used to ride her all over when she was still little and that little horse would always try to swing under low branches to scrap the load off her back. But by then she'd also come running if you whistled, steal treats from your pocket (and beer if you set one down) and if you called and started running, she'd thunder up, race past, circle and run with you. She was just a joy.

O ..Mochi just has to be ok! He's such a gorgeous little doll. Hoping he's found already or soon!

That mulch looks devine! Bet the chooks are in heaven searching it for goodies. ❤️ All our trees here have the tiniest leaves you've ever seen. Worthless...lol. If we want mulch we have to run the wood chipper or visit the store. Might be why I like turning the dirt. 🤣

Well, it’s late so I will have to go back and read these hopefully tomorrow. I got up this morning and it was -1 outside. And I had to build a goat house. It isn’t done but we spent from 10 this morning until 5 tonight on it. It is really close but luckily they do have a little dog igloo to sleep in and they all fit in just fine.

I also have a new layer. I have no idea who it is because of course I was so busy and the one I think it might probably isn’t it either. So I guess I wait to see if I catch her. But she laid and olive looking egg. It’s darker green than the Easter Egger egg. But I didn’t think I had an olive egger. Maybe you guys can help me out and tell me if this is olive or not. And of course once I figure out who it is I can take a picture of her too.

I also tried to candle to one egg Salt laid but I couldn’t see through any of it. Ok cracked it open today and it was a double yolker but the yolks were what you would find in a normal size egg. Normally I have found that when there is 2 yolks that they are smaller. So it was kinda cool to see.

An eventful day and night for sure! Bad Santa! Though not (hopefully) in a Billy Bob Thornton way...
The run looks great! What are you using as mulch? Great news about the sneezes too. Pru seems fully recovered too and touch wood, no one else has caught it. I think vitamins really help prevention and recovery and I think the Echinacea/Sambuca Nigra compound I've been adding to the afternoon feed is helping too.
Poor little Mochi, I hope he's home safe and sound now. I loathe fireworks for the effect they have on animals. I really don't think they should be so freely available. We're plauged by them here from late September to mid January and being in an urban area, it can get really loud. Fortunately, my current kitties aren't too bothered by them but previous cats have been terrified by them. I don't think the chickens are too concerned as both coops are soundproofed. What I don't get is the idiots who set them off during the day?
