I've taken them off him and he's running round trying tempt the ladies with treats. I think they were openly laughing at him, tbh

She does look better, and likely knows you are helping with the feeling better part! But it does sound like it's time for a good cleaning just in case she brought a bunch of things along with her! Have you ever used Elector PSP? This is what I use when it's time for bug deaths to happen! But I did also Google Captain Jacks and have to agree with you that it should be in the arsenal! Thanks @PopoMyers for the suggestion I have not heard of it either!

Well, keeping her in a treated coop is better than letting her run around... I think... right? But I am sure we are just doomed and it is season and with the rain and the broodies. Not sure how the rain aide in mites other than more huddles and less dry sand baths.

My youngest was crazy for dinos too! My kids were born so far apart that I never had to deal with sibling issues. It was more like I raised two single kids. I love Shetlands thought on fossil hunting...my youngest absolutely loved that stuff. And rock hunting!
There's some fun stuff scientists are doing trying to recreate dinos through chickens. Dylan might find that fascinating and enjoy the thought that he might be able to get closer to dinosaurs through chicken breeding!

I lived near a Neolithic cave settlement as a child and we'd go fossil and arrow tip hunting. We loved every minute of it, even if we didn't find anything. I still go fossil hunting now. We live near a beach where fossils literally wash up on the shore. Mainly fossilized shellfish, belemnites and ammonites but I found a vertebrae from an ichthyosaur recently. I bet your son would love it!

Ok so…first I have been wanting to do the sprouting seeds. I’m interested in doing this for them this year. I missed all of that in my absence.

Second…that is hilarious!! I would have loved to have seen this!!

I've sprouted micro-greens for a couple of years for mine. They are incredibly easy to do. This is the first time I've actually seen a product specifically for sprouting for chickens though. I normally have to pick grains out of their normal food, which takes bloody ages! It's reasonably cheap at £2.95 a kg. In future, I'm going to use them as a base and add some herb seeds (They love basil, coriander and fenugreek) and other quick sprouting goodies like broccoli, kale, radish, alfalfa and anything else they might like. Sprouted seeds are incredibly nutrient dense but don't use normal seeds from seed packets for gardening. They've usually been treated with anti-fungal agents to preserve them longer.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing with Stan. He's a total oddbod!

Feral hen looks waaaaay better today. Her eyes are clearing and brightening up and she is starting to complain and react to me.

I have pyrethrin that I spray on my chooks and in their nests. I soak my coops and boxes with a vinegar dish soap mix, then wait 30 minutes b4 scrubbing and pressure washing but may add the pyrethrin the next time.
I like your suggestion on Captain Jack's bug death. Never heard of it b4 but it sounds great and I think I want that in my arsenal.

Hubby had a gallon of white paint he let me have so got some of that onto the yokos coop yesterday. It looks funny with the coop all painted and the run raw old wood. Trying to decide if I want to do anything about it or leave it as is. With exposed osb, the coop really had to have paint or it'd fall apart fast. Theirs faces south and west so brightening up that asphalt was a must. Have to decide if I'm going to paint the old run or not. If not, I think I'll add the last of my blue paint onto the yokos coop too. Spread thin over white it just might make it to cover.

Scraped poop from the ducks ramp and started spring garden clean up.

Goosebumps is ready to mate. She's so silly with her tortoise love, but when breeding time comes she follows me around and hunches down at my feet. I put my hand on her back and give her a little shake and she gets so happy. She stands up, ruffles up and seems to think she's going to be a mom . I have one pea hen that does that too. She hasn't so far this year so it'll be a bit before the peas start laying I think. Either that or she's finally figured out that I'm useless!

Gladys won't go to bed until I give her back and butt a little floof

I know, he corrects me when I pronounce them wrong....which I do a lot haha. I was a pretty good speller but dinosaur names are on another level hahaha. Isn't it fun admitting to your parents things you did as a kid that they never knew? I find it rather amusing to see the shock on my mom's face

Mom's have to admit to things they did too! I was 18 before my mom told me my yellow budgie didn't miraculously change colour to green while i was at school...

I took my youngest fossil hunting when she was younger. There's a place a days drive from where my mom lives. Rose something. You dig the fossils and they go through them to keep any rare or special finds, but everything else you get to keep. She had a blast. Most of what we found were worm tracks and leaves...but she developed a probably life long interest in fossils afterwards.

Yes, I am certain D would love a fossil dig stuff @Shetland lover suggested when he is a bit older, we have bought him some of the fossil dig kits and he loves those. My nephew is almost 14 and his dad took him to Wyoming for a week and he and his Dad got to actually dig for fossils and he just LOVED it. So when D is older, we will look into that if he's still interested! The tiny dinos certainly are helping him and may also help him develop more interest in chickens from that venue. He had to stay home sick today and took 2 of them in to watch movies with him! He NEVER does this with our chickens.

Oh I hate he's sick! But atleast he's got some unique companions!!!

Another sleepy day here so worked on my beer can chicken. Today he got his tail!

Its a crazy everywhich way tail...lol. I started out trying to make neat, tidy, controlled feathers. Tried ironing the tail feathers flat so I could make each feather curl just right...then I decided that was nuts. So a wild crazy tail it is!
