What did you do with your flock today?

Tonight we were stargazing. We built an observatory 14, 15 or so years ago. Today when we went to open it up, we discovered one of the wenchs for rolling the roof off had pulled loose. The 2x6 under it had split. Luckily our oldest fixed it up for us in no time.
My daughter took star pictures with her phone...had no idea you could do that much with a phone camera.

And she got a picture of hubby up on the stepladder smoking a cigar while he looks around.

Here's hubby's favorite telescope. We bought that one together back before we even married. It was so crazy heavy, so we tore it apart and rebuilt it with a light oak frame and a cloth sleeve that attaches to create the tube. We've gotten lazy about sleeving it though...lol.

We're getting old... didn't bother tubing the telescope and called it quits at 10. 😂. But got to see a couple galaxies and tomorrow we'll go longer without having had to spend the day opening and cleaning it. Then Sunday we'll close it back up until next time.

They were pretty cheap therapy as I did not have a lot of competition. Probably lucky you weren't bidding on them lol

I did not introduce hubby to them. I like them and don't want to hear it, they tone down and give character to the tall brass candlesticks I have. One day DH will look up and maaaaybe notice. I feel reaffirmed knowing you would have bid on them with all of your fabulous English charm ♡♡ Love British Colonial or Spanish Colonial decor and that I think they do.
Oh bless you! I've got to say I'm renowned for my outrè taste, however...

Yall the refuge place contacted me back...they r bout an hour away but are willing to take ole bootyhead Joey as they go to Indiana tonight to a larger place for several of the critters on their land. He would be at a 109 acres free and put up at dusk. They have a vet on sight as well.
Sound too good to be true?

Oh! I'm so happy for you and Joey ❤
It's awful having to let him go and will be hard but it looks a good place and I'm sure he'll be happy and settle in quickly.

Poor chooks! You must've had sideways rain.⛈ Glad for drier weather. So hard for you. I think dealing with big predators is easier than your constant battle, although, losing chickens to predators, @kurby22 Is worse.

Thank you so very much! I will print these out. Greensleeves seems to be very resistant to scab, and when thinned produce a large apple. Flavor is best when they ripen on the tree, fine flesh, not acidic, but not a keeper. Great all purpose fruit, pies, crisps, applesauce ( usually needs a bit of lemon juice,) . We eat some, and cider press the rest.
Weather should be into our normal spring temps by next week. Sorry to hear you are unwell. Hope you feel good again soon. How is the shoulder coming along? I have a little more mobility, but still do most things carefully until May 10, when this brace comes off. Hoping the interested person comes to get Cock E today. Little chick Velma has been going exploring in the bedroom, as I've found poop here and there. She does go back into the bin to eat and sleep. I think I have to get the other cage for her until she goes outside, possibly by next weekend. Cecal poo on carpet is just not a good thing.:sick
It absolutely isn't a good thing anywhere but try getting it out of oatmeal shaggy rugs! You can guarantee Stanley will wait to do one on ours! I say wait as I've ALMOST got him house-trained like dad (with his help). Why does it have to be so darn stinky and sticky?
Think the shoulder is improving, got at least another 2 weeks with it on. Still finding it so frustrating not being able to get on with everything! So much needs doing!
So glad to hear you're coming on in leaps and bounds, you'll be back to full strength in no time.

Good morning gang!
We have a clear sky morning here. It is getting brighter earlier and reminds me we are well on our way to our next season, summer. So, I will savor the lingering cool temps and awesome bounty of spring while I can.
View attachment 3476035Got startled out of my morning coffee daze by the helpless screams of a chicken. Spider and one of the Lani's had a feral cockerel pinned and were giving it heckView attachment 3476064View attachment 3476065
It is obviously

*** so byc dropped off and I could not finish my morning note.
DH and I went on our planned adventure to pick up corks for some old bottles so we could send to grandkids... oh boy what a day! I almost got killed 2x! Good thing we had a nice lunch so my last meal would have been awesome. I did follow the last driver who tried to kill me and let her know I think she blew it and needed to pay attention... it escalated from there 😂. Hope she has a lousy Vaca and leaves soon and never comes back and tells everyone she know to never visit here. What a jerk. All cuz she was late for a stupid boat cruise and could not even say sorry for putting a bunch of people in danger with an illegal pass :smack
Well, bright side our adventure.View attachment 3476497View attachment 3476488View attachment 3476509View attachment 3476498View attachment 3476500View attachment 3476504View attachment 3476506View attachment 3476514View attachment 3476518View attachment 3476515View attachment 3476516
Very humbled visiting the graveyard being I almost made it into one today 😂😂😂
That is all so stunningly beautiful 😍 I'm so envious. And what a lovely place to be laid to rest. So glad it wasn't your turn though!

That's so amazing! We have so much light pollution here you are lucky if you can make out Orion and The Plough!

Oh, to finish up or write feral cockerel story again... Spider and the Lani scared him into a corner where I scooped him up, put him in a brooder, gave him food and water. I will give him time to build up some strength and health and then decide where he goes. He looks better already. Poor guy.View attachment 3476716
My sister and her husband are currently vacationing in Hawaii for their anniversary (45 years!). She sent me a photo of a lovely roo that was wandering around.

Yup, I started calling Cock E Bootyhead today. :lau I listed him in the free pets, and he is now going to a new 2.5 acre free range home with a new flock. He is replacing another who is going to be culled tomorrow. The man said he thinks that rooster is too old and isn't doing anything, as in mating. Such a relief for me as well. The other cockerel is renamed Houdini, the one that got out of the fencing mysteriously.
Now I have the other treadle feeder for the flock, so I won't have to refill but once a week instead of every 4 days. Think Velma will go in where the roosters were, and she should be able to come and go through the 2x4 fencing.
This all sounds terrific and another stroke of rooster good luck! You really got it going on chicken farmer, wrangler, dealer and psychologist! You should have some nice stories going forward ♡♡♡
