What did you do with your flock today?

Thanks!! I’m super happy with it 🥰 I sure hope it helps solve the issues! The dilemma now is what to do with the Death Coop. It’s still functional but I sort of wanna just dismantle and destroy…just in case! I couldn’t in good conscience sell it just in case. It’s big too, so it’s taking up a lot of space!

I don’t know what I will do with the bobtail maybe baby…if it’s a she I will for sure consider keeping it….even if not a bobtail. But if it’s a boy, it’s gonna have to be rehomed…or at least 1 or 2 of the bobtail roosters 🤪 She’s so cute though 😍😍
She is cute!
Maybe the death coop is salvageable? While it's empty you could try disinfecting and going over it to see if it needs ventilation added or something? Or if there's any sign they were picking paint and eating....or anything at all that might explain things. Ventilation is the number one thing that pops to mind as a possible illness trigger. I wouldn't blame you if you just tossed it though. Maybe it'd make a good storage area?
I’m going to have no more quail here pretty soon…we found two INSIDE their waterer drowned. They had somehow knocked the lid off and gotten inside. This is my 3rd waterer in their pens…guess I’m moving to try 4. 😫😢😫😢 my new quail pen isn’t working out so well it seems :-(
Aw. ☹️ So sorry! I had button quail years ago and I remember the babies drowning so crazy easy in the smallest little water dishes. I used to use a soda bottle cap with a marble in it so it was impossible for them to get there heads in the water. Can quail use the nipple waterers like chickens? Or maybe something like a baby duck waterer...I use a milk jug with a hole in the side just big enough for the head to go in for drinking but too small for the body to go through. It's the only way to keep the little goofballs from soaking their brooder and then getting too cold.

Oh no! I'm so sorry kurby!!!
Were they babies or is that just a problem with quail in general?

Yeah, I will see about cleaning it out first...and see what I can see. I'm running out of yard for it though hahahaha. And it's seriously in the way at the moment BLAH. I need more friends with muscles!

Yeah, the waterer is perfect...if only the lid didn't come off so easily. It's just a big box with two of the gravity filled cups. Ugh. I decided to get a different type without a lid on top...they just manage to always get crap in the ones with the troughs...so annoying. Full grown adult quail should have no issues with drowning in their waterer and yet...they find a way! :(

Baby maybe bobtail is very lonely...I feel bad that she/he is alone. The rest of the babies aren't due until next week and the other babies are about 1.5 weeks too old. She's way too tiny to be in with them right now. SO I'm sitting here with a towel on my chest and she's snuggled inside of it...making me hot. :p

Just a problem with quail in general! I didn't know adult quail could drown that easily, but here we are...sighhh. :( I'm glad I have some quail in the incubators...I am in need of some hens!

No fun with any of those! Glad everyone mended though. How's the hand doing?
Pretty good, coming along. I will have PT and OT starting in June, hoping to get some exercises to do while waiting. Thanks for asking...looks like you have a huge shaded patio. The mosquito net is a smart thing. Is it hot yet?

I visited with my 5 week old Barred Rock pullets for an hour or so today. The are getting more used to me now, and have been eating out of my hand, sometimes mistaking my fingers for the feed! It pinches but doesn't hurt that much, and I let them know that they shouldn't be biting the hand that feeds them. LOL

I've been working on their coop, and hopefully in a couple days they will have double the amount of space to poop in. I got a couple of bloody scratches on my hand when installing the hardware cloth today, and when the chicks saw the red blood they sure focused on it. Dang little raptors! They're great!

Lizzie began laying around October/November of last year.
They have oyster shell in 2 forms (the rock looking kind as well as the oyster shell sliver kind that's more like crused oyster shells) and they are on good feed too.
This is the same girl that acted so sickly a while back...I think it was February?
It might well be just her reproductive system settling in still. I'd give her the calcium supplements for a week - just in case she's deficient - see how she goes.
Was it a respiratory problem in February? If so, some respiratory infections can cause soft shells for the rest of a hen's reproductive life.
Nearly all hens have at least one soft shell in their laying career, so don't worry too much unless it's happening very frequently.

Oh no! That's awful, so, so sad. How on earth did they manage that??😭😭😭

How's Nohope getting on?

decided to let the trio of LB Leghorn Bantams out today to enjoy the evening. Been hectic so none of my exhibition birds have gotten outside time in a bit.

Yeah she's had quite a few off and on...pretty sure her sister Daisy has as well.
In February she was deep breathing through her open beak and just lethargic for few days. Never much other symptoms though so idk what's going on with her.
Whenever I try to give her the ½ pill cause shes so tiny she ends up breathing like that again I guess from the stress of me trying to get it on her beak? Daisy doesn't breathe like that at all...only Lizzy.
But otherwise she's acting normal.
