Eighteen pounds? What breed of chicken is she?

And how do you go about weighing a chicken? I have no idea how I'm going to weigh mine.

Meet Victoria. Depending on the fullness of her crop she weighs in at 18lbs. I think she has stopped growing. She lays some big, big eggs. Some they don't even make cartons that big.

111 here today. Ugh. And our ac went out on the living side of the house yesterday. That units only 4 years old! But we have zoned heating/cooling so I'll just spend my indoor time in the bedroom half.

That sounds just awful…and a non-working AC?!? It would be so lovely to live closer to you…if not for your weather

I don't remember your area being that hot, but, what does a kid without a smart phone care about the temperature? Kids are impervious to extreme temps. Just ask why we have to wrangle in kids with bluing lips....or make them take a shade and water break before heat exhaustion hits.

Speaking of heat...I checked on everyone during the worst heat of the day yesterday and all my poor babies are hot hot hot. But they're using their shade, water bowls and moist dirt spots to get through it. Hopefully the cats claw vine I planted last fall by the new coops grows well this summer, and I started more cuttings this spring to plant out this fall. Got to get some of that cooler, deeper plant shade going for the birds.

Yeah, I bought new mister hoses for everyone! Now to get the babies used to them enough they won’t hide in the hot sun FROM the cool mist

I do not have a cluster of BEAUTIFUL lilies or charm of the English ♡♡♡ but I thought my front chicken proof garden has been looking terrific this last week so I will share... before it gets too over heated and stressed out.

And the one lily the deer did not munch on up Koke'e had another bloom. She ate all of the white agapanthus buds though lol.

Get to head up soon. Had a fire on the hill last eve. Seems they were quick to respond and looks like they got it out by this morning. Lot of ash in the yard. Day 2 of summer, gulp.
Eva got caught in AJs yard and then caught by Cody. Hubby was quick to get her out of there and she only suffers feather loss thank goodness.
Got waters scrubbed and boards scraped so will pack some grub to take up the mountain and continue on.

My better half has just scrambled 4 dozen eggs for treat time for some scrappy raptors. They sound like a pack of dogs when they belly up to the feed pan of these.

That must've been a really big pan!! I have done 2 dozen, but 4 is a lot! Lucky raptors!
