What did you do with your flock today?

Amazing! Do you just put the tape on overnight?
Ya. There'd be progress each morning that would mostly be lost by bedtime. Took a few days before I was sure it was helping. I think you could safely do 2 on 2 off through out the day though.

Keeping her here one more week just in case its not healed enough to stick and taped her last night as well even though it still looked good by bedtime. Think she'll get to go home next weekend.

Mine really didn't take to them at all! I had better success using a small pair of ladies underwear and a dust mask. The idea is the wings go through the leg holes, you gather up the excess over the back and fasten with a safety pin or similar and use the dust mask in the back to catch the poop. I used toddler underwear for the bantams.
As there's only Ferdy (and occasionally Stan) gets past the kitchen these days, I don't bother now.
I'm trying so hard to picture it and think I'm failing miserably! Is the dust mask inside the undies as a disposable pad?

After the normal feed and water we separated our white giants and dark cornish. I'm going to town shortly to the feed store and if they have an old fashioned leg grabber I'm spurlging on one. Catching 10 Dark Cornish inside a 12x12 walkin coop took the wind out of my sails in this heat. at least the DC's are in their on coop now and when they start laying large eggs I can hatch enough to get the DC Flock up to 40 pullets.

I've only had Penelope go broody so far. Pru has usually been broody at least twice by now! I'm wondering if it has something to do with the poor weather we're having?
I would have thought with our weather they wouldn’t have gone broody. But NO…little stinkers. When I think we are done with chicks, the hen laughs at me and says “Watch this”. 🤦‍♀️ And of course breaking them is impossible.

So we are getting 3 additional additions to our farm tomorrow. I’m so excited about them. I can’t wait to show pictures!

I have 14 days for my Cemani chicks to hatch and about 7 days for my chicks and my 4 ducklings to hatch. This will be a wrap for my ducklings and hoping a wrap for my chickens. I know I can sell them but it’s the roosters I’m having such a hard time. I wish I could keep them but I don’t have room for just roosters.

The black with the gold is one of my Ayam Cemani’s with a lot of leakage but he is so pretty I will probably keep him. But the other ones are just adorable looking but I can’t keep them. I have tried to sell them but people want them for little to nothing to just eat them. I have decided that if I can’t find them a new home, I would have them processed and hoping to donate them to families in need. And I have more than what’s in these pictures. All my barred rock and cuckoo maran crosses are boys. I’m so disappointed in that cause I was so excited about them.

That's why I went ahead and got the silver spangled hamburgs. I really love the breeds I have but that's all about personality and looks. The dwarfs go broody every time I blink, and none of my breeds are excellent layers. Though the dwarfs are pretty good. The hamburgs I read are non-broody regular layers. Hoping they give me the benefits of the non-production breeds with more production breed like laying. And they don't seem wild to me at all. Hyper but not wild. They definitely please my eyes ❤️

Oh for sure!!! I have seen some of them for sale around here and I considered getting some of them but I decided to not to. Probably not a bad thing. My flock is just growing so much. I got a “hen” when my first Cemani’s hatched and only one survived (I don’t know if you remember that) but instead of a barred rock hen, it turned out to be a rooster. Then we got RIR’s and I’m almost positive there is a rooster in them. Then I intentionally got my light brahmas, and got a male with them. Then of course the Pavlovskaya and Cemanis.

I have to take control of my animal math. This is going beyond chickens and ducks 🤣. And then adding more breeds. 🤦‍♀️

Your babies are just so so pretty!!!

That cemani is a pretty boy ❤️ I didn't breed many cemani before I decided I didn't want to keep the breed. I ended up giving away all of them. But I didn't have any with leakage...they were all pure jet black. If you decide to keep him and breed him, hope you post pics of his babies down the road!

Your boys are stunning @FBMcrazy8 . Makes me miss having a small bachelor flock... oh wait.... 🫣

Thanks to @kurby22 jedi mind tricks (pretty sure 😉😆) and boy beeeeebies 😖 think I will again lol.

Good morning gang!
Just got finished with my first round of chicken and kitty chores and now wait for coffee. The weather is nice, good breeze.

After a good oil yestermorn, my machine sewed a perfect bead, so I was back in buisness, again.
Today will be much of the same. Then I will head down to help AJ clean her house and do some yard work, go to nice man's house and dose his kitties that were missed on the first round -he does not think real clear, so it is a challenge we have to get through- but I must say I look forward to not having to head down the mountain as much as I have had to this last week...
In less than one week the difference seen in NM's colony 👍👍 They now come out and wait at the feeding stations I started earlier, not so much skimbering and scattering of the starving ♡. The kitties I had trapped last week are showing up and looking a bit fatter already. Gotta see this one through. Hopefully, my next trapping will be easier and of healthier kitties ♡🤞
I don't know if I told you that NM lives in a wild and remote location, steps from a near private beach. Old missionary land, still in the family. Here is a small share.

One more week till dh's family starts flying in etc. Gotta get 3 messy houses spotless, cars, yards etc. Gunna be a stressor. Good news is the chickens are fabulous ♡

I added a roost today, using a 2x4 and plumbing/pipe straps. In the photo it's the board with a gray level on top:

The flock were roosting on the end wall supports, and the only thing between them and a predator was a tarp and hardware cloth. What if a raccoon ripped through the tarp and stuck its claws through the wire?
So I attached odd boards to the supports at a 45° angle to discourage roosting.

The new roost is about 6" farther away from the wall.

Pullet approved!

Then I sat for a few, to cool down and enjoy their company.
