I only go so many hours till I think of @kurby22 post and a grateful shudder runs down my spine
That Forest kitty is everything a kitty should be, I am so grateful for him every second of every day. My other cats are like, what the H ?! Probably grateful that he is not attacking them.

don't know if I told you that NM lives in a wild and remote location, steps from a near private beach. Old missionary land, still in the family.

Ohhh that beach looks simply amazing I would love that kind of quiet and serene beach! Someday I will retire closer to the ocean

Gotta get 3 messy houses spotless, cars, yards etc.

The new roost is about 6" farther away from the wall.

One of my cockerels tried to kill the other yesterday, so it moved on to be with a more experienced chicken keeper. So far, the single little rooster with the eight hens seems to be a happy little flock.

I guess the stress from the fighting yesterday evening, and the constant crowing made three of the hens so anxious that they layed eggs without shells this morning. But I also got 4 good eggs, so 7 out of 8 laid today. Might have to start selling eggs when the start coming out full size.

Funeral services. I'm so antisocial... also, not looking forward to the loss of control. Maybe there will be some as I do love dhs family.... they are just kind of exhausting for me.
To make myself feel better, I ordered some new Tshirts for me to wear. Want to look ok as I sweat the days away.
Maybe find one in black for services . That and Jean skirt.... done. Then can trash them with yard and chicken duties after.

Good call. I'm glad you found a place for #2. It will be wonderful to see your flocks dynamics without all the boy drama.

As soon as it cools down some I have to put some shavings down in one coop and put up a new roosing system in 2 coops and start planning on building nesting boxes for those two coops to accommodate the Dark Cornish and the White Jersey Giants. I'm separating the Roos from the Delaware coop and the RIR coop to give the hens a break in this summer heat. I do not need fertile eggs and the pullets don't need getting more and more feathers scratched off. They just need to chill and not be stressed keeping the boys happy.

I added a roost today, using a 2x4 and plumbing/pipe straps. In the photo it's the board with a gray level on top:

The flock were roosting on the end wall supports, and the only thing between them and a predator was a tarp and hardware cloth. What if a raccoon ripped through the tarp and stuck its claws through the wire?

So I attached odd boards to the supports at a 45° angle to discourage roosting.

I like it too. Just moved some pullets about ready to lay into one very similar to yours. I used a sheet of OSB across the end for predator protection for the first 4' and then hardware cloth to the top for ventilation. 2x4 roosts going in this afternoon. I like the idea of the plumbing strapping to hang instead of legs like I've been using.

I saw it used some in a video last year and use it in several places in the building of the 8 hoop coops I have now. I have to pick more up as 3 more hoop coops must go up ASAP.
