What did you do with your flock today?

I've been dealing with rooster issues too. Apparently 2 is one too many in my little flock. The cockerel has been moved to his own coop and run for now. He seems quite content there at the moment. What I need are more hens. I do have a broody. Perhaps she'll produce a few. That would certainly be nice. Haven't had great luck with getting fertilized eggs though, which is why I'm hoping that eventually I can manage both roosters. I've done it before, but every rooster is different, so we'll see.
My two cockerels got along when Joel was head roo. Once he died Samuel reigned but was a total jerk.

I miss Joel.

Aloha gang, Happy Monday!
This morning I tossed a bunch of papaya, chicken, popcorn and broccoli to my flock. After our long hard fight with sticktight fleas, it is wonderful to see them happy and not scratching and miserable. No signs of reinfestation 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞.View attachment 3885690
No freeranging yet as I have to head down the mountain before sunsets and make it back up after sunsets. Flock is small enough, and run is big enough. We still have green grass in it so 👍 good for now.
Blind Nina is well. Been chicken sitting for well over one year now as her dad dropped her off over 1 year ago.She is just finishing upma mild molt.View attachment 3885709
Going to head out and refill waters, feeders, collect eggs and pick up poop. The glamorous life of a chicken keeper now that all the hard work is done. Well, most of it.
Still need to pick up supplies from the hardware store and redo a bunch of fence and wire down the mountain. Probably later this week. Just making sure all are settled up here first. Seems good. plus i like and need the break. I was a little under the weather myself for a bit.

I spent a couple days in the yard up here. Had to weedwhack the lawn. too many roots and hills to bother with bringing up a lawn mower.View attachment 3885703Then DH came and helped me rake all the rubbish up and toss in green waste pile.View attachment 3885705View attachment 3885706
Nice to have that done along with some trimming and plant cleaning.View attachment 3885707View attachment 3885712View attachment 3885717

Stayed up the mountain again last night. Fosters are running and playing games in the cabin with Tally Ho. What a bunch of tornadoes 🌪 . DH took our adult cats down the mountain as they were miserable being locked up... and a major pain in my okole.

Welp. Better get after it...
Hope everyone's day is a good one!
Thanks for keeping us updated! So glad to hear life seems to be rolling along smoothly. Tally Ho has some fun company it seems. Keep him occupied for sure. Your yard is lovely.

Bloody mosquitoes! They find me irresistible :rant
My lot are still asleep, haven't heard a peep out of the boys yet (neighbours are probably breathing a sigh of relief...) and it's just gone 6am. Soon be time to get them up, skipped out, fed, watered and Ferdy's eye drops put in...
How do easy do you find it caring for your cross beak? I've had a few special needs birds but not a cross beak so I'm curious.
Mosquitoes are my nemesis. Both my son and I are their favorites. Dusk is a terrible time to be outside. So many biting bugs! Today I had put on bug repellant containing picaridin, and no bites all day. Yay!

I loved Foghorn Leghorn as a kid! I too spent more hours than was probably good for me watching Warner Bros cartoons.
My younger brother was scared of Marvin the Martian, to the point I had to watch with the volume off while he buried his head in the sofa cushions.
My DH and I still recount scenes from F.L. and look for them on You Tube.

Sorry I haven't updated you recently, so here goes.
Onyx is still with us. She is acting more lively and normal.. She is finally continuing her molt. I am now thinking that she was severely anemic from feeding all the mites, and was lethargic from low red cell count. Higher protein, SFLs may have helped her. We were gone for 2 weeks, and the weather was hotter than usual here. Before we left, 2 of the leghorns began laying small eggs. Now I believe 4 of 6 are. Also one of the blue eggers laid, but not sure if it's one who got killed.
2 of my blue eggers were killed one night. I think raccoon, who found the tree that grows over the fence and got in that way. I had my friend lock up all the girls. All except for one who went on the lam. She did not want to go back inside the safe run. After 2 days, she finally wandered back into the run, and my son closed the gate (which had been left open in case) and shooed her into the coop run.
DH went and electrified the trunk of that tree, with neighbor's permission.
Today I let them out, and they enjoyed the puddles from the soaker hose around the trees, and grass. They hadn't been out since the 2 were killed.
Also, tried to solve the escape route. Stapled all kinds of netting to the apple tree branches so they couldn't fly up, and traverse the tarp to go out.
Lo and behold, as dusk and roosting time arrives, I hear some fly up into the tree to roost. I took to shaking the branches (you can imagine) and the 3 of them came flying down. Chased them into the coop and shut the door.
What a busy 2 days we've had.
Hope you all are staying cool.

Sounds like they've been giving you the run-around! So sorry you lost two girls but glad to hear Onyx is doing so much better. Great to her from you!
