What did you do with your flock today?

@fuzzi I believe this one made a few babies... probably wrong but Banana looks just like him.View attachment 3897676View attachment 3897677
Acts like him too. Maybe same dad... who knows? Does not matter any more as he is now fixed 👍
Papaya is a total cruiser. He and Elliot have been totally relaxed around each other. Please dont judge my floors 😂View attachment 3897679
Went up to check the chooks. Water is still off so I filled their waters from the stream again. View attachment 3897680Bout as pure and as close to the source as water can get ♡

Chooks are terrific living the life. 10 beautiful eggs so far today. Beetle is doing a perfect job caring for the ladies.View attachment 3897687
What a lovely path that must smell heavenly when the ginger blooms. Everything looks great, and the green roof has grown taller! How nice to have the tropical fruit, which I do miss. Toting water from that pristine stream keeps you in shape. Hopefully the fires are extinguished soon. We all have many things to keep us busy. A good kind of busy.

Changed out coop shavings today. Some young ladies are laying eggs on the floor of the temp coop (which is now permanent). I think I should call it the grow out coop, or the separation quarters. 2 girls insist on roosting in the trees, and are getting blasted off with a jetstream of water. The other day, it took a long time. Tonight they got down pretty fast after getting sprayed. Let's see how many days it takes......DH electrified the plum tree trunk, which we think the raccoons are partying in at night and eating plums. Seeds are dropped below. Also saw a doe eating plums today, too, and she spit out the seed. Just in case the coons are climbing up and over into the chicken run. He really wants to see them get zapped. Cameras are ready.

All this garden talk is making me and my chickens jealous and hungry. It all sounds so wonderful and to take the time to garden sounds even more wonderful. Bravo peeps.
Our papayas and soursop have been steller and now our starfruit trees are loaded. Oh!!! And this is the first year that the dragon fruit is holding its blooms! Of course, these plants have required little of me, (except water and patience) so I don't feel I am in the same gardening category as you all. I just enjoy perks.View attachment 3897399View attachment 3897404View attachment 3897400

Life here has been busy. We have had a series of fires, outtages... just weird stuff that calls for adjustments and is frankly, exhausing.View attachment 3897412
Fire lasted for a few days and burned some serious acres. Helicopters where whirling and dumping and roads were closed....
It was at the end of my trapping and feeding days, so im usually exhausted anyways. My town was fillled with smoke and we all were happy the winds mostly stayed on the light side and from the west. View attachment 3897425
We got a pass to go up the closed road so I could feed chooks and grab kittens. Knowing they could close road and i could be stuck. Photos dont do justices, plus i was riding my xt250 down.View attachment 3897418
The cabin has not had any water for over a week now, due to water tank repairs. So I was hauling water from the stream for the plants and chooks.

I actually befriended and trapped a male calico at the papaya farm. They are like 1 in 30,000 I guess. View attachment 3897427He now stays with us. My feeding stations are paying off big time, still no Foreset, but I am not giving up, just doubling down. I took another 8 of Kauai's cats off the breeding roster. And 2 more kittens off the streets, one very sick, but now safe, fed with vet care. These will be adopted into homes in Seattle.View attachment 3897428View attachment 3897429
Brooder is being put to good use still.

I spotted 2 more kittens last eve. May be orphans, but of the age that is okay to trap so I'll get them tonight 🤞
My chooks are fantastic. I spy on them with cameras lots. Egg quality is terrific. I look forward to seeing them in about 1 hour!!! 🐔💕
Oh wow! I don't know where you find the energy! Great work with the kitties. Every single one is adorable and I don't know how you manage to convince yourself not to keep them all 😍
Sad Forest hasn't shown up yet. Is he microchipped?
And poor sick baby! What's wrong with him? I'm keeping everything crossed for him and I'm sure with your healing, loving hands, he'll pull through.

I would give anything for a starfruit. They are one of my favourite fruits and I haven't seen any to buy over here in more than 20 years! And all that ginger lily...Clara would just gorge herself to death.

And I love your little lizard friend. That bright blue eyeshadow!

Do a Pay-Per-View!
😎😁🤣

Starfruit has such a fast season, but it does have 2 per year. It is all or nothing, or so it seems. Tree laden then bam! Hopefully you will get some in soon. Ours are about 1 week away from the first ripening

Piko Kitty has a respiratory infection... a pretty good one. Very deep in the chest and eyes ☹️. Not sure if the one eye can be saved, and not sure how well she sees out of the other eye. She is adorable and purrs up a storm when being fed and when eating. Very social kitty ♡
I was able to trap one more kitten last eve

Did not get the sibling so will tray again tonight.
I did release 3 antisocial kitties to a good colony the other day. I got them from another trapper when kind of big and well, they are polite, but that was it. Never did warm up after about 4 months. I'll get to see them with feeds. That makes my foster kitty count 14 today. Seems manageable.
We are redoing the kitty condo now. Fresh paint and rewire with a welded wire instead of chicken wire. Plus shade features, more hops and a wrapped pole or 2. So, in transition.

K. Better go medicate and then paint.
Have an awesome Monday all!!!

Today, I let three of my chicks out of the pen to forage (the ones that I hatched from my chicken's eggs). I had a fun time watching them peck around and seeing how they react to different things. The different personalities of chickens are one of my favorite things about them.
I love that too! They all have such distinct personalities and funny little quirks. And it's something non-chicken keepers don't realise - until you start regaling them (ahem, boring them rigid 😆) with tales of your flock.

I've actually found somewhere in London who will ship starfruit to me - at a price! £26 for 3! Plus shipping 😫

Poor Pico! My two had a very bad dose of cat flu when they arrived. It affected Grace's eyes but, curiously, not Elliot's. Fortunately, she kept her sight, though it was touch and go for a while. She has been left with some eye issues, chiefly runny eyes, particularly in summer and a choking cough on occasions. She doesn't seem too bothered by it and a recent vet check said she was in perfect health. Not all are as lucky, I know. We gave them both twice daily steam inhalants which seemed to help ease their respiratory symptoms. We put them in their cat carriers with a towel over the top and a bowl of boiled water in front of the closed door and let them gently steam for 15 mins. Can’t say they were too enthusiastic about being shut in their carriers though!
Hopefully, Pico will recover well too.

Awesome work in progress on the kitty condos too. Should keep the guests very happy!

Wait....I'm boring them??? They always smile and nod. Doesn't that mean they are interested?
