What did you do with your flock today?

Salmon and sardines are high in Omega 3 fatty oils, maybe your flock is aware of nutritional needs?
Maybe! They do get a pellet-free diet as they absolutely refuse to eat pellets in any form (spoilt brats!) and I got sick of wasting food and money. I give them a very wide range of grains, greens, fruits, veggies and wild plants and a protein source daily, as well as free access to a mineral/vitamin/calcium blend. Then I just let them have at it. So they do self select, consciously or not.

Wow!!! 2 days in a row I gave been awake before the chickens. I even managed a shower. I don't sleep much at one time, usually. To bed at midnight and up at 4 seems to be my latest pattern.

Yesterday I found out that I'm a moron. I been leaving the porch light on at night. It didn't dawn on me that they were sleeping in the darkest area they could find, not the best liked. I feel like a turd. Follies of being new to the flock. 🥲

I get by on 3-4 hours a night too. It's rubbish.

On the plus side, I can monitor how loud my boys are being and how early they crow in case of neighbour complaints. So far, there have been none - I love my neighbours!

i have solar lights pointing at and around my coops- my ducks never seemed to mind them —?

I splurged and bought my flock a special treat the other day... 2 fresh ears of corn. Gave them one a day to share between the 6 of them. I guess they're worth the 50 cent cost of the corn.
I did that, too! I snapped the ears into thirds and tossed them away from each other so the pullets would have a chance to eat.

I think he's doing this because they're no longer spurning his advances, they're HIS hens.

A guy on TikTok used an upside down tomato cahe to hold the ears of corn. It bounced a little when the chickens pecked the corn. They seemed to enjoy the activity and treat.
We plan to do this with ours.

I think it would be too tall for my bantams, but I like the idea.

He did get some corn but let the hens AND pullets eat first.

Bury part of it or cut it so it's shorter. You bend the pieces that you normally would put into the ground, to a 90degree angle.
