What did you give your chickies today?

The girls had a bowl of brown rice with chic peas and a tiny bit of cayenne pepper mixed in--they loved it!

i made them their own pecking block to keep them occupied throughout the day, so they loved that! Also, seed, and some lettuce!

What is a pecking block? I fed mine (for the first time) polenta with oatmeal and I mixed all their veggies in with it along with some scratch, they have plenty of pellets in the feeder. This is the calmest most enjoyed meal I have ever seen them eat

I am learning soooo much here. I never thought of fixing them something warm

not sure why not but read it here that they love something warm on cold mornings. Boy did they ever. Usually they follow me around the coop but not this morning they all ate quietly while I cleaned and gathered their eggs. Even my evil one that is separated from the flock really enjoyed her breakfast. Is bad to keep her away from the flock she terrorizes the others horribly so she is alone I am worried about her being cold at night. She has a whole bunch of hay or straw (do not know the difference) for her bedding and area for laying.

Mine went crazy for leftover baked potatoes and garlic toast. Loretta, my largest female didn't even wait for me to tear up the toast, she grabbed a whole slice from my hand!

Some treats I give my freeranging hens to supplement are crumble and scratch grains, a handful of catfood on occasion, dishes of plain yogurt, cooked bits of pasta, tomatoes(favorite!)and other veggies, watermelon, figs when in season, cooked oatmeal and barley.
