What did your chickens do today?

Henrietta, one of the RIR pullets, spent an hour yesterday making the most awful racket. She was moving from nest box to nest box and after an hour laid her first egg. I'm glad it didn't take any longer because she just sounded uncomfortable (to put it lightly) and all the other chickens were very nervous until she laid that egg and exited the coop like nothing happened. She didn't lay one today, but I'll be checking the nests every day now that we've got one laying eggs. Several others look ready to any day now. They have really red combs and wattles.

One of my Australorp pullets is trying to sound more henish. She reminded me of a teen whose voice is changing. She sounds like a duck and she really entertained me trying hard to sound like a real chicken.

I guess she left the coop like nothing had happened because she'd made all of her racket beforehand, lol!
Congrats on your her 1st egg! I hope the others start soon, too.

Ok, they look like they are ready to lay now - because they have really red wattles and combs? Am I reading this right? Is that a sign? And I am assuming they lay during the day but when is the best time to gather eggs? Guess I am asking if they are more likely to lay in the early mornings or later in the day?

Our little bantam rooster crowed! lol it was the cutest crow. Not loud but very clear and perfect. He crowed five times then stopped. Now if he kept that up just like that it would be great. lol. Oh and it was about seven thirty so not too early either.

Yesterday I found my little 12 week Wyandotte severely injured. Really bad. To the point I could see throbbing meat on back left side. I cleaned it up, applied red kote and gave shot of Tulane. Kept her in the house. This morning I sprayed red kote and another shot. Now she's not wanting to stand where as yesterday she was still flying to our shoulders :( is there anything else I can do to help? She was such a sweet loving girl. Never seen a chicken that loved to cuddle as much as her! Don't want to lose her :(

Our little banty was crowing again this morning. The dog woke him up! He uses crowing to remind us he wants food and water. As soon as he is fed and watered he is quiet for the rest of the day. So far anyway. :D

I know what you mean! Our 6 RIR's are about 15 weeks old and are almost done with there peeping. We hear a lot of complaints from inside the run when our puppy disturbs them...

I took my king roo Teddy over near me while I relaxed outside today. The first thing he wanted to do was go over to the bachelor coop where all the roos are and show them he was still their boss. A couple came up and challenged him but Teddy stood tall and started crowing for all to hear that he was indeed still the one in charge. Pretty impressive for a roo that is handicapped and not the biggest boy out there but he is wall to wall personality and easily the best roo I have. After he made it clear he was the man he came over to be by my side and we ended up taking a walk together. It was a chicken filled day and was very relaxing.
