What did your chickens do today?

Ok, they look like they are ready to lay now - because they have really red wattles and combs? Am I reading this right? Is that a sign? And I am assuming they lay during the day but when is the best time to gather eggs? Guess I am asking if they are more likely to lay in the early mornings or later in the day?
Some of my Hens lay early and some late. I just check it when I feel like it, but I get them by 2p or 5p they are done...

They ate and slept and pooped and had to endure the barking of my neighbors 6 small dogs that have not stopped barking since they let them out at 5:30am and it's 7:56pm now...ughhhhhh...

I would b shooting me about 6 dogs

I admit my dog barks. BUT she only barks at the passerby while they are walking by our property. ( unfortunatly there seems to be a lot of teenagers going for late night walks) As soon as she deems they are not too close she stops and goes back to her toys or nap or whatever she was doing to begin with. Lately I've been noticing people antagonizing her when they walk by. Even had some idiot stop their truck, open the door and tell her " Shut up and go home you stupid mutt!" As soon as I stepped outside they shut the door and left. For one she was in our yard, and two she wasn't even barking. She doesn't bark at vehicles...Caught a teen throwing rocks in her direction the other night too.

Don't know what peoples problem is around here but next time someone antagonizes her I'm going outside with my rifle in hand.

But I agree with LibRat. If my neighbors dogs didn't shut up all day and night I'd be doing something about it. Maybe not shoot them but at least file a noise complaint.

I don't even own a gun lol but a dog to me should do what yours does.... let you know when someone is there. If they don't ever stop barking how the heck are you supposed to know what's going on out there? :/

Go greenie! She's saying thanks with eggs :) yay!
Today my chickens will get rewormed. Sounds like they'll be having fun, eh? Might be it's me that'll be having fun trying to catch 'em.

I promised to give them (and me,

Anyone who would like to answer a few questions about this worming business - please read this post: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/815471/reassurance-needed-here#post_11836545 Update on Greenie: Greenie is doing MUCH better. She is eating and drinking and noticeably more active. She is allowed to run around when I'm outside everyday, so I can keep an eye on her. Her head is healing, the scab is getting smaller. She DOES NOT like me to catch her but she DOES keep me in site. She's gotten pretty brave and goes all over the front yard but she doesn't stray too far away. I noticed that she usually comes when I call her - I say "come on, come on..." and when she gets me in site, she comes running! So maybe her trust is returning little by little. And today - she LAID HER EGG!

First egg since the attack several weeks ago! Now today, she gets a dose of wormer, too.

I was walking with my king roo today and checking out what the hawks were doing. They were out in force and snagging birds in mid air. It would have been interesting on Discovery Channel or Animal Planet but not so cool when it is 100 feet from the main coop.

Teddy and I were patrolling. He was announcing his presence to the hawks. Then he brushed against my hand and I saw the injury to his waddle. One of the roos had punctured his waddle and it was swollen like a grape. I inspected it and he winced a little but I was able to see there was an infection. Teddy let me remove the scab, inspect the puncture and wash/disinfect it. I got a clump of puss nearly grape sized out in one chunk and a bunch more after repeated poking and prodding. Teddy never clawed, flapped or even squawked but instead was still 100% committed to his chicks and kept watching for predators, responding to danger sounds and giving commands. I hated seeing him like that because I know it hurt him but he demonstrated again that he is my strongest and most impressive roo. He is resting in the infirmary with one of his hens and still telling everyone that can hear that he is still the boss. To know Teddy is to love Teddy.

Makes me glad to live a little farther out in the country. People are amazing and that's NOT a compliment in far, FAR too many cases.

And the guy who actually stopped his truck to yell at your dog, on your property when it wasn't even DOING anything but standing there?
If people served time based on the degree of lame-brained antics they pull, that guy would get time + some extra just because he's mouthing off TO A DOG (who, has more sense.)
That and the rock throwing, taunting teenagers just burn my britches!

I feel like saying "How about a little quid pro quo? How about since you want to regulate my ability to have a chicken or two, I'll regulate your ability to pass on those sparkling genetics of yours?"

I had a little more commonsense when I was a teen than the current generation. When I walked by a house and a dog barked I wouldn't yell at them to shut up. I would either ignore or I would talk softly while I was walking so they would see me as a non-threat. Maybe I should start chasing the teens with my own rocks and give a little tit for tat.

I literally lol when I read the quid pro quo. Oh and my dog was in fact doing something....chewing on her new rawhide bone I'd just gave her not 10 minutes before.

I love my pup.
