What did your chickens do today?

One of my 6 chicks found a piece of paper towel and after grabbing it, she proceeded to tease the rest of them. It was great to watch! As they came at her, she would dodge them. And at times you could see she was thinking ahead, because she would bob her head every which way, trying to find an escape route, still grasping the paper towel in her mouth. And it was just entertaining to see. They reminded me of puppies playing tug of war.

Ate, crapped, laid a few eggs.
LOL, What they usually do!
I took the babies out and put them in a dog crate for the day. It was windy, but I think they enjoyed the sun and grass. They will be going to a new home this weekend.

Oh well, cant keep every single one I hatch!
I love putting chicks out on grass, look so cute!
How many do you hatch?

ate a broken egg, crammed three hens into one nesting box for some unknown reason, pecked at some shoes
Great photo!
Ahh! My hens are constantly cramming into one nest box!
Laid me another dozen and a half of eggs.
How many chickens do you have?
I'm getting 3 eggs a day from 14 hens.LOL.
My cows on the other hand, decided it was a good morning for a walk down the road. For over a mile. At about 10 am, a neighbor knocked and said "Hey, your cows are out and they're in the field near the bottom of the hill". Glad they followed a coffee can of grain for the long, slow walk home.
Wow, aren't you lucky then.
How did they manage that one?

My 4 week old splash Cochin jumped up to get a leaf off a bush, but the leaf didn't let go right away so this little chick is just swinging from the bush sooo funny had to giggle

Today, I let my lonely little month old Leghorn down into the grass for the first time. She's the nicest chicken I've ever seen and begs to be picked up. I guess I didn't quite set her down, she was on my arm like a parrot and jumped into the grass. Normally I'd snatch her up, but I let her be, and walked around the house to the basement. She followed right behind me (until we passed our old parked dump truck, which she ran under). She's such a cute little girl.

The rest of my flock of 2-3 mo. old chooks and ducks were jealous she got to free range first! Haha!

Yesterday, my 8 hens had a day of free range fun. I had just tilled my garden, so the worm feast was ON! All activities were closely guarded by the resident black lab. Who later napped with the hens in the shade:)

The 22 7 week old chicks made their way to an outside coop;-) They were so funny claiming their new areas! Hackles were raised and chest bumping assertion went on. Quite funny to watch, I did't know they did that! Threw in some chick scratch and the older hens came running to see what there was to eat (they can see them, they are not with them) the baby chicks scattered like the sky was falling!

My family just put baby chicks in their fenced area for the vary first time: 6 barred rocks, 5 cinnamon queens, 5 Easter eggers, 5 buff orpingtons, and 5 black astrolorps. And they learned about how tasty ants are. :)
