What did your chickens do today?

My week old chicks started to fly after playing leap-chick. My rooster Silkie Rascal has fallen into protective mode and sits sentry next to my broody bantam hen Bertha. My guinnea girls scream amd cackle while my huge Domino hen quietly snatches up the bugs.

Oh how could I forget! I got 25 new chicks! Only expected 12 lol

Today more chicks jumped up on my lap. Belle at one point could not even find a space! She is the one that always jumps up. At one point there were five on my lap and legs. I dont even give them treats yet but they love to hang around my legs and peck at my feet and shoelaces. Oh and my fingernails! Almost all of them attack my fingernails! And moles and hair on my legs. lol. I have bruises from the hair pecking! Now we know why women started shaving their legs!!!

I cant wait till my nine hens start laying.

ROFL - That's the same sound one of my roos makes but I couldn't put it into words.

Our eleven week old chickens are figuring out how to cluck instead of just peep. Some have it down well, others peep at first with it ending in a cluck-like sound and the rest still sound like brooder chicks. It's funny when they do since they look like so much like adults now and you'd expect to hear a more adult voice out of them. The oldest silkie clucks at me when I pick her up. Otherwise she still peeps. The other silkies in the coop are a few weeks behind everyone else and just peep.

Hellion started trying to court the ladies today! Though they wanted nothing to do with him.

Poor little guy (banty). At least he's trying and being nice about it. I have to say he's turning into a beautiful little Roo.

Stray mutt got in my yard and scared the girls today ... Not happy. Apparently it didn't discourage my roo and hour later he was still trying to court the girls, lol

Mine is four months old and he has actually crowed so I know he can do it but he still peeps too so it's like peep peep honk cluck peep then cock a doodle do. Sounds like four birds at once lol

I saw something odd tonight. I was petting one of the little girls and a New Hampshire roo did not approve. He started to come at me and he was not in a good mood. Just as he got near my foot my biggest roo, Teddy, charged up and literally drug the other roo away. He was giving the other roo an ear full with his "What do you think you are doing?!" clucks and when he got the roo a few feet away he released him and walked back up to me.

I've been trying to teach them that I am the big roo in the yard which means an occasional run-in with the other roos but in general they are all sweet. I can pet or pick up nearly every chicken and they will relax and accept the attention. A couple try to front and act like they are the boss but they give up when I look at them and give them a lecture lol. My hens are the sweetest things ever. They will walk up to my feet and look up to me for attention, they like to jump into my lap or perch on my arms.

The chicks got a couple treats today, green beans and carrots, so they started chasing me around looking for more.
