What did your chickies eat this morning? :p

Mine are still eating chick crumbles, though they enjoyed a few grubs too. I tossed out some corn, they weren't too sure what to do with it yet.

Well I was feeding my cats, which get alone very well the hens and rooster...curious...I threw some cat food (simi hard) into the run..wow they went crazy eat it. Is that a bad thing??? New to stuff and still learning ...

I scrambled some eggs for the old man (no, not my husband---my old barn dog) this morning. He's getting up in age so I try to fix him a warm breakfast when it's cold out. I mixed some of the eggs with some left-over rice so the girls could have a warm breakfast too. They are out scratchin around in the yard for now, but I have to head out to work in about an hour, so when they go back into the pens, I'll fix them some cottage cheese and yogurt. Throw a little scratch in the run and dump the kitchen scraps (some lettuce abd pepper peel today with some crushed egg shells) in their feeder. And the hubby will turn them out to free-range for a few hours when he gets home from work. Then it's up to roost and we'll do it all again tomorrow! ;)

I've heard cat food can be good for chickens, esp. when they are molting and need extra protein. I think in moderation, it should be fine.

Let's see,,,,,,
They get flock raiser 24/7 as much as they want. They had some leftover casserole (chicken/rice/corn) that they cleaned up in a few minutes. Various scratch grains (cracked corn, whole wheat) that they didn't clean up yesterday, bugs, etc.

In addition to their normal food, mine had some stale bread, some leftover tomato soup (mixed into feed) and some meal worms I forgot I had in the fridge. They all seem to like their food softened with water or even better, yogurt.

I added warm water to a bowl with left over dry dog food, rice and cottage cheese (my old dog's mix of foods) and added oats and a table spoon of left over curry paste I had sitting the fridge (thought maybe the spices would warm up the chickens)- plus added 4 cups of chicken feed to the slurry and out it went to my 15 chickens, YUM.

Feeding chicken to chickens seems.... wrong.... I know it won't hurt them but....
