What did your pullet look like when she laid her first egg?

Bluebelle (my Blue Cuckoo Maran) laid her first egg yesterday. It was a small egg. She laid another one today but it broke immediately and the others feasted on it. I’ll get a picture tomorrow and post it here. Shockingly she was born March 27 so she’s only 16 weeks old.
Congratulations!

My blue copper Marans laid her first egg at 16 weeks five days! I was shocked as well! She ended up laying another egg two days later, but hasn’t laid one since (5 or 6 days now).

Both of her first eggs were a mess (soft shelled, laid from roosting bar, cracked, small) so I’m hoping she will actually lay a useable egg for her next one!

Here’s her picture. No more eggs so far. I assume that’s normal.

This is Ms. Fluff butt, this photo is about 2 and half weeks after she started laying and was trying to go broody already 😂 Her comb and waddle are covered in dust, but she turned bright red about a month before she started to lay, and was squatting about 3 weeks before she started to lay. She was a day away from 20 weeks when she layed her first.

I’m super curious to know what your pullets looked like when they finally gave you their first eggs. If you have photos, share them here! And include how old she was if you have that info, too!

I thought it would be cool to see the variety of development among pullets when they come into lay. I’m guessing some will be super developed, and others less so. Let’s see!

The extra selfish reasoning behind this post:
I have five 16 week old pullets that I’ve raised from day old chicks, and one of them started turning red about two weeks ago. In the last 5 days, her comb and wattles have grown significantly. No squatting yet, but she’s always been skittish so I don’t really expect her to at the start of laying. (One of her flock mates is not red at all and squats for me though!) I keep thinking eggs are just around the corner! But nothing yet. And then my neighbor with two pullets of the same age tells me she got her first egg and her pullet isn’t red, comb and wattles are tiny, and no squatting! It’s driving me a little bit up the wall! I’m egg hunting in the run daily, and I need to focus my attention elsewhere because my girls are starting to get annoyed with me. :idunnoThis is my first flock, so I’m overly eager but can you blame me?! Haha!

Here are my three most developed pullets. The white one is the one that squats. The grey one is getting red and comb/wattles are changing but not nearly as much as my brown and white girl! The gray one was acting strange today - making an absolute fuss and seemingly being super spooked about nothing. Let’s hope for eggs soon!
I don’t have a picture of her laying her first egg, but I do have a picture of the first egg. I have one that lays an egg everyday at 2pm, has been doing it since she started laying 2 weeks ago. My kids an i have been able to watch her lay an egg a few times, it’s a pretty cool process. Though now when I’m in the coop when she’s ready to lay she will squawk until I leave. 😂 I am also a chicken newbie, i only have 2/8 of my chickens laying. I try to give them extra treats when they lay an egg.

I don't have a pic when my hen laid her first egg, but one time a hen laid a first egg, and another hen who was already a layer ran up to tell her now she was and adult bird now.

I'm right there with you!! My 13 girls will be 16 weeks on the 15th...trying not to obsess. Besides, 2 are buckeyes, and 2 are faveroles, so they'll be a while....🙃

Some baby laid her first yesterday! 17 weeks exactly. Don't know who. I have 3 EEs, and 2 blue egg layers, CLBs. The rest are white or brown layers. These are the 3 suspects, (mystery EEs 1 & 2 were boys). Wanna guess? 🥴
These pics of the girls are 2.5 weeks old - they are all red in the comb & wattles & are squatting, all are at POL.
