I currently have of breeding age 1 Cayuga and 2 Buff drakes (one light, one standard) as well as 4 Cayuga ducks and 1 Buff (light).
The Standard Buff doesn’t seem to get any action as he’s usually muscled off by one of the other drakes, so it’s a possibility but remote.
I was trying for sex linked ducklings (Buff on Cayuga) and threw some of my Buff’s eggs in as well. Cayuga on Buff will give Blue, but not sex linked. And I didn’t read well about Buffs not breeding true, so Buff on Buff will give any of the three Buff colors.
So this baby hatched from my Buff egg (yes, I’m sure it’s hers). I guess my Cayuga drake got in a shot even though the Buff drakes guard her like the Secret Service
I added pics plus some of the Cayuga hatchlings for comparison, this guy was a nice dusky color at hatch with lighter bill and feet. The difference is more obvious as they all dry out.
If it’s female it will stay for my breeding purposes but a drake will need to move along. So do I call this a Blue Cayuga? A Blue Buff? Or just a Blue duck not Swedish?
More eggs need to hatch…fingers crossed for SL blue and lilacs, I haven’t had any hatch successfully yet.
