What do I do? This is a duck thread.

Hi everybody. I was just wondering is it OK to have one duck as long as you’re with that duck all day long and all night long? I have a two month old duck and it’s interesting because he’s absolutely huge and he’s just a baby. Anyway I started reading articles that said it was cruel to have only one duck so I went and ordered some more eggs and I put them in the in the incubator. They sent me four eggs and they’ve only been in there for five days so I can either put some in the trash which would be really hard to do but I guess I could do it or I could hatch them all (depending on how many hatch) and find homes for them. I ordered 4 because the last time I tried to hatch six ducks I only got one to live and so Im really guessing here. I can see one of the eggs has veins and the little dark circle. None of the others have this yet. I only want one duck from this quad-some and I’m terrified that these eggs are going to hatch and I wont know what to do with them. I don’t want somebody to kill them and eat them so does anybody know of a place where I can go to sell a duckling as a pet? I’m afraid if I discard some of the eggs that I’ll end up with no ducks. Which means no friend for Lenny (Lenny, who started QUACKING LOL.) I guess we have a female Duck named Lenny.
The other question I had is would it be better for a female duck to have a female friend or a male friend. I don’t plan on reproducing so to me it seems obvious but maybe females don’t get along. I really don’t know, which is why I am asking you guys.

Ducks can live up to 10-15 years maybe more, that's a lot of responsibility to be with them for such a long time day and night. Ducks are best paired up with other ducks not humans, not saying it can't be done but, they are much happier with their own kind. You could sell the ducklings on Craiglist, Facebook or the Rehoming Forum right here on BYC. For your situation female to female would work great.

They need a friend. I had these two cute little ducklings and one died and the other one got lonely and hopped out of his cage and got cold and died.

How I dispose of unwanted hatching eggs in a easy manner is place in a bowl in the freezer. They quickly stop developing. I wait 24 hours.
Try hatching the single egg and if doesn't hatch find a local Duckling in your area.

Why even let them start to develop if you don't want ducklings?

If you have some already developing and some that haven’t take the ones that haven’t developed out. But you shouldn’t have a problem finding homes for any that hatch. Can you put your state in your profile? Just state then maybe someone on here might even be interested. Plus we have states forum here and byc sell trade an rehoming so lots of help hopefully.

Dont count your ducks before they hatch, keep incubating the 4, itll be no problem giving 3 ducklings away IF they hatch
