What do i need to know about donkeys...

ok i looked at the website you gave me. Maybe before i get the donkey i will be sure the owner will take him back if he/ she doesnt behave. Maybe i wont need the donkey if the electric fence works and there are no predators getting in...

the more and more i read the more and more i think getting a donkey is a bad idea. I am really going to care about my sheep and lambs and i do not want any trouble from a donkey! I have just read how easy they are to keep and how great they are about guarding livestock such as sheep.

They are smart animals and can get bored. I have put toys out there to play with. Mine like to play with an old soccer ball. They will kick it around their pasture.

I forgot about the salt and mineral block. They really need that...especially in the summer.

My old family Doctor had his office in his family home and his property was a large farm.
The office windows looked out over the field of sheep and several miniature donkeys. My goodness are they ever cute!

The donkeys would take the feed buckets by the handle and bonk the sheep over the head. They had to separated

yup have to agree that some can kill livestock my friends donkey decided one day it did not want the sheep to sleep in the shelter with it it picked up a ewe by the scruff and threw it amd killed it not saying all donkeys are bad but have seen a bad expirence

Donkeys are really strong, even the minis.
If they don't want to go into a horse trailer, they will not go without sedation

All mine would walk into a trailer. However, all were halter trained. One of mine LOVES to travel. All you have to do is open the trailer door and he jumps in.

When gettting any animal, you should check out the animal and training. Also, you need to evaluate what you know. It is good that you are asking questions.

There are some donkeys that might not work. Donkeys, like a lot of animals, don't do well after being hit and abused. Those can come around, but they need a lot of help to do so. Ones that have been neglected, with love and care, often come around faster. It is amazing what they do forgive.

I have one donkey that will put her head in my lap when I sit in a pasture. Her whole life she has known love and kindness. It makes a difference .All will wrap their heads and neck around me for a "hug". Also, donkeys, like dogs, horses, or whatever, are each individuals. However, everyone that I have is very bonded to us. They really love us as much as we love them.

WHat you might want to do, is look at more than just one. Go to different farms and watch how the donkeys act. Make sure you are comfortable with the donkey and like him or her. They can all have very different personalities.

ok i will make sure to get one that is used to getting into a trailor!!! dont want to have to sedate any donkeys!
