What do I need to use for litter PLEASE HELP

I have bobwhite quail about 1 week old ,what do I need to use for litter When can you put them on wire how do you keep them away from a draft I live in alabama so its pretty warm here this time of the year

I keep my birds in the brooder until the brooder temperature is the same as outside the brooder. In the brooder I have t birds on hardwood and straw
Once in the wire cages mine have a wooden bottom area to go into

i have used straw ,shredded paper , and pine shavings like the shaving best for up to 1 week old then the shredded paper
