What do I put in a Dusting box?

My hens are so lucky, that I have somebody to ask when they need help.

Rolling in dirt to be clean, yeah it would have taken me awhile to figure that one out.

I know what to buy, saw the pic of the bag on MissPrissy website.

I wish I could give you some advice back some time but I dont know any thing about chickens.

Well, today I learned two things, 1 how to make a dusting box and
2, Lt. Brahmas are said to be sweet and gentle, this is not the case if you flip them over and try to look between there legs.

Thanks for the help!

I have seen my chickens roll in sand and shavings until their feathers are so full they stagger a bit under the weight when they stand up to walk it off. LOL

During the summer I had strange "spots" of dirt on the garage floor. It look like a clod of dirt exploded and there were several all over.
Aliens?? Tired of freaking people out with crop circles??
Nope, saw one of my hens shake herself out after a dust bath. She left behind a good cup of dirt.

I leave it to nature, mine go under the coop and dig away, it's their place I let them do their thing. They are very clean and I assume very happy they are laying and jumping for joy...

I had to laugh at one of my girls the other day; I have a big rubbermaid tub in the coop filled with cracked corn. I mix this with their layer formula in the winter. I had the lid off as I was filling feeders, and I look over to see one of my big fat white rocks bedded down in the corn, flipping it up onto her back

OH MY GOSH do not use 50/50

My hubby does NOT like holes all over the yard.
And I want my silkies to stay clean and fluffy.

I have a cheap plastic baby wading pool ubder the covered run to keep it dry.
I add 2 bags of white play sand and 1/4 cup of DE and 1/4 cup of 5% seven dust.

YOU CAN ORDER a 2 pound bag of DE from cutler's supply.

I just got my chickens Sayurday 3 of them add 3 more monday and built a chicken coop yesterday( used dog house until yesterday dogs never used it) any ways what is DE and why do they need it, and a dust box. I have no ideal why I got chickens other than was at feed store and decided eggs would be great. Do the nesting boxes need a top on them right now I put sides so all 6 have their own box plus but a 2x4 for them to roost on they slept in next boxes last night. I have gotten 1 egg sunday, tuesday, Wednesday, and Yesterday even with me and my husband building when will the other 5 start laying.
