what do yo feed your chickens to snack on

Mine really like warm oatmeal! I buy the generic, so it's cheap. Bread heels, stale Honey Nut Cheerios if I crush them up a bit, and of course boiled or scrambled eggs are a big hit. They'll eventually eat, but aren't crazy about plain yogurt and spinach (not mixed...lol).

My chickens LOVE scrambled eggs. But my husband had a coronary and said that it was gross that I fed my chickens their own eggs. He sees it like feeding bacon to a pig.

It's really cold here in Iowa, so my girls get hot oatmeal with blueberries, they LOVE spaghetti (they must think it's worms & they gobble them down lol), when they can't get any fresh greens I cut a head of green cabbage in half and hang it from the ceiling of their coop. They go crazy for that. They are so funny to watch - I love chicken t.v.! - even when it's cold. They enjoy snuggeling now more than ever. I also buy fortified cold oat cereal for them. They get a treat every day.

I use black oil sunflower seeds since I buy them in 50 pound bags for bird feeding. Mine didn't like the popped popcorn, but the dogs did! I also give them leftover cooked vegetables; haven't had them turn down anything yet. I dry eggshells in the oven and crush them and mix them with whatever treats I'm giving, particularly for hens who are getting special treatment (scrambled eggs, yogurt, etc) when they're molting. Haven't tried hanging a cabbage yet, but I'm going to because mine sure loved cabbage when they found it in my garden.

My husband used to say the same thing. But i say it's more like feeding milk to a calf. It's exactly what was made for him to have the most perfect nutrition. The yolk is what gives the hatching chick nutrition to grow and live, right? To me, it's the same. Eggs are incredible in so many ways!

lol

Before i started raising chickens, i was under the impression that chickens were vegetarians (don't know how i missed the whole worm thing), and i'm pretty sure most people don't think of a chicken ever eating meat.
