what do yo feed your chickens to snack on

Meal worms that is their favorite, but I might have to go to work to keep buying them. They don't want to stop.

I make what we call "chicken mush". It's a mix of oatmeal, yogurt, wheat germ, ground flax seeds and berries (if available). They come a-runnin' when they see me come outside with the mush pan.

I feed mine lots of things. I cook scrambled eggs for them every Saturday. I add calcium, cheese, yogurt (each has vitamins and calcium and protein) Want to keep my babies healthy. I save all of my egg shells and clean them and put them in the oven for 15 minutes and I let them cool and then use my food processor to grind them up. This is Calcium for them and I add it to whatever I give them to eat. I cook them pasta, elbow macaroni noodles, grapes, spinach, tomatoes, pumpkins. They really love bread and they almost tackle me if they see I have it when I come outside.

Pumpkins are supposed to be a natural dewormer (actually the seeds are). I take the seeds and grind them up and add buttermilk or regular milk and yogurt and my calcium. It is like a smoothie and they love it. I got this idea from Penny from BacktoBasicliving.com.

and they love lots of different fruits and veggies as well. My husband says they eat better than the dogs do, but they are loved so very very much.

Oh and I purchased 5000 mealworms over the summer and wanted to start my own colony so I could feed them to my chickens. I have got lots of mealworms and 1 huge tub and then large tub with them in there. It is now time to start to give them to my girls. they are gonna love them I am sure.

I think the shorter answer would be "what do chickens NOT like"

Beyond the obvious no-nos, my flock goes raving mad for just about anything I put down for them... except fresh raw garlic, they don't like that very much.

For everything else between here and the moon, they're like a pack of piranhas when I put "snacks" down for them in the coop!

Today's cold morning treat was alfalfa sprouts topped with chopped hard boiled egg topped with oatmeal/bird seed. They looked grateful as devored it.

My chickens are cannibals. I left some chicken curry out all night, and it went bad, but they loved it! In fact, they were fighting over the pieces of chicken. They also like chow mein noodles. In short, almost anything.

Good to know. How do you know when chickens have worms?
Thanks.

Everytime I cook spagetti I always make extra for the girls. It's thier favorite. We also have a 50 ft pear tree that put on pears every other year. Usually the squirrels waste a bunch of them and we always have lots of partialially eaten and rotten fruit. Not any more!

Here are few of their favorite things....
