What do you all do for kid's school lunches?

No peanut butter at our school too.... My kids LOVE cheese and crackers with shredded deli meat. We keep it all seperate with baggies and they get to build the stack themselves. Apples and cut oranges with the peel still on is a hit. I make sure GOOD breakfast and dinner and the gummy bear vitamin because lunch seems to get in the way of being out the door to play! LOL

Usually he eats the school lunch $1.75 a day. hard to come up with a variety for that price.
But when he does want to bring something it is usually my version of a grilled stuffed burrito.
mix cooked shredded chicken with rice and cheese and medium salsa then put it into a large tortilla fold it up and put it in the george foreman for a couple of minutes. hot, crisp and does not unfold when he eats it. It is still warm when lunch rolls around. He has brought a stir fry with him in a thermos and it was still hot and good.
btw I do most of the cooking in this house. blame it on my mom teaching me that spices are good for us.

but so true!! I second your laziness...er... efficiency!! I get home at 1am, the last thing on my mind is lunch!! it is actually BED because I get up at 6am to take my kiddies to the bus stop!!

Hmm... my boys aren't in school yet, but we have light breakfasts, big lunches, and light dinners here (usually).

Some of their lunch favorites are:

Homemade soups
Homemade Mac N Cheese
Any type of pasta dish
'Turkey Cheese Sammich' per my 3 yr olds request
Crackers and Cheese

All is usually served with sliced fruit or chopped veggies and sometimes a slice of whatever homemade bread is left at the time. LOL

Is having food at your schools common? It isn't even offered anywhere around here that I know of. So I;m left making them their lunches. We have pizza days etc occasionally for fundraising, but that's it.

Maybe try introducing them to different fruits (it's cool that you let them choose!). I always felt like the coolest kid at the table when my mom packed me fruit no one else had heard of. Carambola for the win! My nephew resists lettuce, tomatoes, and rest of them UNLESS they're on a sandwich. Mmmm, BLTs!!! Good sandwich idea right there.

I always thought it was so cool to have lots of samples of different foods, too-- like in little rubbermaid containers. Some noodles, some fruit, a different type of cheese...

The best thing of all, though, is getting a napkin with a note on it! And either way, kudos for putting the lunches together and for giving your kids such good things to eat.

and my kids make themselves food when they feel hungry so I don't really think about lunch most days.
