What do you call this cross breed(BRroosterXRIRhen)?

Quote:
I believe we should all keep at least one heritage breed for posterity sake.

I've read that the majority of dairy cows are holsteins and the gene pool is getting to shallow creating health problems and a loss of parent stock to create these hybids out of. I would hate to see the same happen to chickens.

I've heard them called "rock islands"

It is just a cross, and any made u[ name would work. Just be honest with those you sell to and tell them the background.

i'm not trying to sell any, just looking for pictures

Pictures of chicks on their journey to becoming roos or hens, pictures of roos and hens...just curious

I totally agree. I love the heritage breeds. I do have some of the hybrids, because they outlay all my other girls. I did enjoy raising the pure breeds and hope to get back into them when I get more room and out of the city. As far as the cows, I haven't heard of that. I have a B.S. in Animal Science and yes almost all dairy cows are holsteins. Jerseys are used because their milk has a higher butter fat content and it is the best for making Butter, Cheese, and Ice Cream. I think the main problem with commercial Dairy cows is that most producers are breeding for higher milk yields and aren't paying attention to the other important qualities, such as good legs, udder attachment, and so forth. For those of you that are dairy farmers, please don't take offense to this. This is just my opinion and assumption.
