I guess batchlor flocks are okay for some pwople, but around here, they're either thought of as expensive decorations or just useless since they don't provide anything back for feed and you can't always handle male's without them turning aggressive

Personally i think selling them young is best because then you can just sell them straight run

Agree selling straight run.. but we had to wait until we knew a few were hens.

Yeah, that's where I run into problems myself because I wait until the hens wean them unless they had a big clutch and by the time they're weaned, they're usually obvious

I'd love to be able to just deal with extra male's that are nice looking but I simply can't afford to anymore. I go through almost 300 pounds of food a month when I'm raising clutches, but even when it's just adults I have, it's still close to 200-250 a month

I agree that most don't, don't get me wrong, but at the same time something has to be done with them and not everyone will keep male's that they have no use for. Better to be cared for and given a respectful end than just left on the side of the road to be hit by a car or just thrown on a compost because they can't find a home


At the OP, do you breed normally? Or were these extras from an order you placed?

I hatched for the first time and had an 80% hatch rate...way higher then expected

It's always nice when you get a high rate. I had a Pheonix hen that hatched a clutch a few days ago and besides one infertile one, 9 hatched and only 1 looks like it won't

I sell males for $5 and females for $15 day old. Minimum purchase 2 ducks and try to give 1 male with every purchase of females. A lady selling cayugas near me sells the hatching eggs for $8/egg. I think it depends on demand and what you can get in your area.
