What do you do for a living?

As you all know, I'm a dentist.... I drill, I cap, bridge or fill and I bill....

Got my BA from University of Utah in 1983 and my DDS from Marquette University School of Dentistry in 1987.

Prior to that I had a number of different jobs.

I worked as a painter, as a belt sorter for UPS, as a door to door book salesman, and I ran a 80 acre peach and cherry orchard for a number of years as well as a part time helper on my Dad's farm.

I have been happily retired for over 2.5 years after spending 28 years as a police sergeant in a 100 officer department.

Currently, by day, I'm an elementary school principal. I'm licensed in OH and PA. In the evenings I collect eggs and pick up chicken poo around the yard.

I also have been a:

teacher
barista
waitress

I'd love to retire to a small farm but don't believe my DH has the same dream - which is why my chickens are behind a six foot privacy fence in the middle of town!

I guess the closest title that makes sense is a Systems Analyst for a large insurance/annuity company (not one of the ones that went downhill in 2009 - the place I work actually has hired something like 300+ people locally in 2009 and 2010.) I trouble shoot problems for the processors who use our systems to review and issue annuity contracts, write up tests plans for implementing improvements on the systems, tests those plans in a mock environment, then standby to assist when we launch those changes. I like it a lot

I just moved up to this position - previously I was a processor.

Before that, I was a SAHM for a year, and my previous life/career, I was an organic chemist for the State of MI. I tested groundwater, surface water (lakes and streams) and soil for semi-volatile organic compounds (pesticides, PCB, other yucks). Before that I was a QC analyst for a food safety company and tested kits that detected E. coli, Salmonella, and other foodborne yucks, mycotoxins, and food allergens (milk, eggs, nitrates etc).

My degree is in Molecular Biotechnology, and has nothing to do with my current careers, but I guess my workplace doesn't care! They are pretty awesome about hiring and promoting based on skill and work ability, not based on a diploma or who you know. I love it there. My goal is to learn programming (Java), and move to that department.

I sell rural land in Upstate, NY.

So I am a real estate agent/land consultant. I work outdoors in all weather and get to see many beautiful pieces of land out in the country, all over Upstate, NY.

I travel alot.

This market has been very difficult, but we are starting to see a turn. I hope its not just a phase...

Agricultural commodity trader. We buy it domestically and sell to international markets. I always get a kick out of doing a trade and I really like my international customers from places like Turkey, Mexico, Africa. Been a waitress, ran a grain elevator, worked sales in the beef industry. Retirement is 5-8 years off and I don't think I'll be at a loss for something to do. Here chickchickchick.
