What do you do with an unmotivated 18 year old?

At this point, I would call the police, and tell them calmly, that you fear for your, and your husband's lives to the point that you are locking your bedroom door at night. You are afraid for your son's life because of his erratic behavior and that he has a history of mental illness. You tell them to come get him. And then you let them take him. You have done enough. Wash your hands before one of you gets hurt. I say this with much love and concern, good luck, I'll be thinking of you all. <3

I'll get flamed for this and I didn't read all the replies, but...

I have one word for helping unmotivated 18 year olds - military.

he cant go into the miolitary; he has too many mental issues going on -- they wont take him.

At 18; you cant MAKE them go into the military...

Why would anyone flame you for that. I think it would be a great idea. Maybe not for this child because of his mental state, but HEY, my daughter is getting thrown out in 6 more days. Maybe she will smarten up and go enlist.

I think our problem is; the teens now are SUPER LAZY...

seriously...I can honestly say that due to having one...and I'm not lazy!!!

there are too many things that keep them doing things sitting down and not working,v olunteering etc...

Our kids grumble about it but they do ALL the yard work and most of the animal work, of course ours are grown, just sponging off mom and dad til one gets thrown out and the other finishes school.

Have him go talk to a recruiter. They can be real persuasive about helping them lose weight (or gain it, like they had to do with my brother when he wanted to enlist).

My DD was in the military, Iraq veteran. Best thing she ever did.
