What do you grow to feed the chickens??

This was a discussion with someone in the desert west. She could control it there. You are right, it would be uncontrollable in most places. It could not survive without care there.

No problem. I live in SC. We have the same problem with it. For most of us it is the last thing we need to plant. It is the devil. LOL.

I have about 1.5 feet around two sides of my run that I would like to plant ground cover. Since it will probably poke through the chicken wire I want to plant something the girls will enjoy nibbling. Any suggestions?

I've heard nasturtium recommended. My flock won't touch it.

Marigolds if you have a breed with yellow legs, and they are not recessive white.

I just got a call that my comfrey starts were shipped this morning. They will be in front of the run and the chickens can eat whatever pokes through.

I have comfrey EVERYWHERE. I can't imagine ordering it. My chickens love it. I am sure yours will too.

I'm hoping it is as tough as they say and will survive here in the high desert with enough water and chicken compost!

I have comfrey and it struggles in this particular high desert. It wants lots of water and it NEEDS iron in the form of a supplement or if you have some other way to get iron to them.

I need to get some mixed in to my soil before the comfrey starts taking off and then suffering.
