What do you have in your flock?

Pics
I just have a small flock of three. 2 Barred Rocks and a Rhode Island Red. I wish I could have more (dang city rules). I love the look of Buff Os and having an Easter Egger would be great for the novelty of it.

a barred rock, 3 mixed bantams, 2 unknown roos, a RIR, a red star, silkies, brahmas, marans (blue copper and blue birchen), cochins, orps, sapphires, wyandottes, ameraucanas

so ive been thinking of starting a new flock but i live in a place that usually drops lower than 0 degrees Celsius. Im just asking if rhode island reds are weater hardy and if they can tolerate the cold?

I have:

Laying:
4 EEs
5 Silver laced wyandottes

Teens:
5 Buff Orpingtons
1 EE cockerel

Chicks:
2 Barred Rocks
2 Cochins
2 Brahmas

2 White Pekin ducks about three months old

if it gets that cold where you are try looking up the cold tolerant breeds. you may want to find a breed with a rose or pea comb and something fluffy too. some breeds such as silkies are very cold tolerant because their combs are compact and it helps ward of frostbite issues. also, I was reading somewhere that chickens with feathered legs tend to be more cold tolerant. when they are sleeping it helps to have the fluffy bum so the feathers cover their legs and keep them warm. hope this helps.

So, I have a general laying flock of farm store birds (bought these before I knew much of anything about chicken breeds - probably was even still calling RIRs "Road Island" and thinking, "So odd to name a chicken after those little islands in the streets with all the shrubbery and street signs.") But, I digress...
I am beginning to work on some unique birds (Bieles, SRBs, CLs, 55s) and have taken the plunge into East Frisian Gulls. Golly, they are a beautiful bird. Right now I have silver chicks and am getting lemon and gold colored in the mail today. Anyone have experience with these? I'd love to hear. Here's a pic of the silver chicks. The first is just hatched, the second is a week old. I love the way they are feathering out!
