What do you put in your water

I use Avian Super Pack, which is a vit & Elect solution. It is for times of stress and or extreme weather- Which I am in now...extreme weather LOL

Ahh, you beat me to it... Bourbon.

I put ice...I likes a nice cold drink!

Apple cider vinegar is acidic and leaches zinc out of the galvanized finish. Depending on how much they get, zinc is very toxic to most bird species and is responsible for some 'mystery deaths' in coops. ACV also ages the waterer and if you see rust it may mean you have leached the finish off your waterer.

Whenever I think they could use a boost, or if they're feeling sick. I don't use it all the time, maybe for a week at the most.

If you are using plastic you can use ACV as a preventive/curative. I haven't tried it for birds yet but horses like it, and it keeps water in buckets from freezing longer.

The best way to deal with algae is to clean your waterer thoroughly then use it indoors or exclusively in the shade. You'll still get bacterial growth in warm weather so don't let the lack of algae fool you!

old thread I'm reviving... Is ACV good for ducks too?? Anyone know? I assume it's ok to eat the eggs from chickens/ducks that are on ACV water. Thanks!
