What do you think about 6 egg auctions? Usless?

I have no problem with 6 + egg auctions. If the breeder is reputable, is known to have good packaging and hatch rates, and if the stock is worth getting. . . Sure! I mean sheesh, last time I put some pretty crazy bids on 8 test eggs from Tolbunt Polish.

I didn't win the auction, it was above what my pocket could hold, but I got close.

- Instead once the auction ended, I went searching some more and bought myself a dozen for nearly $200.

That dozen is currently in my bator and has a pretty good fertility rate so far.

Oh Lord, honey I am praying for a good hatch for ya!!!! That is beyond my means, though those birds are incredible!!!!!

I won a 6 egg auction and asked the breeder for 12 eggs and she sent them at no additional charge... Now I have 10 developing and looking really really good. My FOURTH hatch of 2010 is May 1st.

I bought 5 eggs for my birthday....5 call duck eggs from BeccaOH here on BYC. Every single egg was fertile. Right now, they are in the bator, due to hatch sometime next week. Cross your fingers--calls are tricky!

Sometimes, a small egg auction is good, if you really want the eggs. It's really an individual preference, if you want to bid on a small auction.

I have bought and sold 6+ auctions. I like to think of them as samples. If you don't know if the breed or the breeder will work out for you, 6 is a good number. I also, *ALTHOUGH THIS IS NOT THE NORM.* sent 23 eggs in a 6+ auction. If you saw his winning bid you'd understand why I felt like he deserved more. Once again, it's not my normal routine. I want to make that clear so people don't expect it. Generally, if I put "+" I mean 2 or more extra, so 6+ is 8 or more. Which should get you 4-6 chicks, shipped.

I agree... that it depends on the breed. No... I wouldn't buy or sell 6+ BRs. They are generally a dime a dozen... and if they are show stock... you should probrably see them in person. A picture of a breed like BR wouldn't show you the detail in the feathers. I'm just saying since I read that on pg. 1

Ok. That was my $.02

I've done that too. I have abysmal hatch rates personally and plenty of scrambled shipments, so if I can get what I want within an 8hr round trip, I'll usually just order chicks or birds and pick them up.
