What do you think is wrong? What should I do?

I noticed that My 12 weeks old Gold Laced Polish was limping so I removed her from the coop to check her out. I had also noticed that she kindof stays by herself lately. This is how her foot looks. Any ideas? Advice?

Is this pullet able to put weight on the foot? Is she favoring it by holding it up against her belly? Is she pecking at the foot? Is she curling the toes on that foot when not standing on it? Do you see any swelling near the base of the toes?

With black skinned chickens, it's not possible to see the typical green bruising that shows up when light skinned chickens injure their feet and legs, but you may be able to see swelling.

You can soak the foot in warm Epsom salt water. You can also give her a baby aspirin for the pain twice a day, but try to keep her off the foot as much as possible for a few days.

She puts weight on the foot sparingly. When she does she keeps that toe up. How do I give her the aspirin? Just poke it down her throat? I removed her from the coop and have her in a brooder by herself in the house. She lays down most of the day and has both feet sticking out from her on the same side. The brooder is a makeshift from a large plastic bin. I put the soft shavings as the flooring. Is this ok? How much epsom salt should I use and soak for how long? Also— thank you!!!

Are there any cuts/lacerations on top or bottom of foot? what about swelling?
To give aspirin I would use a half dose, crush it and dissolve it in water. Then feed with a dropper.
I'd keep her isolated (be careful she doesn't get too hot if using a lamp- I prefer heat pads) and let her rest.

Baby aspirin is just 81 grains so you can safely give a whole one twice a day. I just pop it right onto the back of the tongue as you would with a dog or cat. Chickens swallow pills easily, even large ones you would have trouble with. But they will spit it across the room just as a cat would unless you get it far enough back on the tongue. It won't choke her as long as you allow her to close her beak and swallow.

A half cup of the Epsom salt in a half gallon of water. It doesn't have to be exact measurements. I usually time a soak for around fifteen minutes. If you can do it twice a day for a couple days, it could make a difference. If things get worse, then it could be more than a simple injury. It could be an avian virus.

I was doing 81mg to 1 cup water today for my pullet and was giving her small amounts. I'm glad to know this dosage information you shared. I was so worried about how much she could have- I didn't want to over do it.

I am no help but just curious because I LOVE Polish (but don't have any yet), has her toe always turned upwards like pictured? It's almost 2 am so there is a possibility that my eyes are playing with my mind and seeing something that's not there. :idunno

Yes it’s turned up and she’s limping. It wasn’t always like that.
