I do think its sad that we have resorted to nit-picking and insulting the people who run this place. theyre doing the best they can to support all of the members.
even if people are inactive they ARE members and there isnt anything anyone can do about it. An upgrade was needed to support the copious amount of activity that does take place everyday.

im really surprised and disappointed how some people who have been around for ages and love this COMMUNITY are being so nasty about the change. i mean, isnt it more about the COMMUNITY and less about the website? it is to me. The last website was very flawed but we got used to those flaws and regarded them as the norm and loved the site anyway. Give this a chance and within the next year i bet it will be exactly the same.
Agreed. Great post.

GFMs and PPMs can get rid of most of the ads.

I believe that regular members can get rid of the right hand column by editing settings in your profile...
thank you hon, now what is GFM and PPM lol, not sure what to do. I'm having it so difficult to manage. Also all the auctions are private to me and I can not see anything. Oye Is that gold members and heard members? Off to look at my settings now :D

I'm undecided. It has a lot of cool new features. But it is harder on the eyes. It also has so much stuff going on it is distracting, where as the old one was clean and simple.

I think things will improve over time.

I do love the top nav bar. Very nice.

I hate the sidebar though. If there is a way to turn it off I will be much happier. I looked but couldn't find a way. It just squishes the topics too much, and I have a pretty large screen size.

I actually liked the old way of doing BST.

I may be the only one though. Although I think an option to do it either way would be cool. Because some things you do need and auction for, and sometimes classifieds work better. Such as if you have 20 laying hens for sell a classified ad works much better than auctioning each one off.

Auctions will not be back for a very long time, if at all - it's only Classifieds now.

It is not a "new mysterious" bright white. Compare the main forum and sub forums pages to BackYardHerds and Chicken Crossing and honestly try to tell me that they're not easier on the eyes. BYC did NOT look this bright before. As I've said, the actual posts are fine but everything else is irksome.

"Nitpicking"? They are asking us our opinions, not everybody's is going to be the same as we're, you know HUMAN BEINGS and not robots. I'm frustrated because every web site I seem to be going to lately is "changing" and it has more to do with money than anything else. Youtube is a prime example of that. Features are being taken away from "regular" members that they had before and now you have to pay to be upgraded to a higher membership just to be able to use features that were so simple before.

I don't appreciate your attitude. Maybe when you get a condition where you're more prone to headaches you might understand a little better. My user experience shouldn't have to be compromised in the name of needless change. Change isn't always a good thing, darling.

What is your question about the edit feature?

People used to report themselves by mistake on the old site. It's not a problem.

This is not really correct. We have developed a workaround so you can use the classifieds as an auction. There is a template for you to c&p into your classified. Bids need to be posted. If you want to follow an auction closely, there is the instant email feature for replies to subscribed posts, which you can select at the bottom of the page below any thread / reply box.

Nifty posted quite a bit about making this decision, before this change, and talked about some of the tradeoffs involved, as well as the pressing need to make a change.

A "workaround"? You think this sounds easy??? I guess you don't do auctions and neither does Nifty!!!

MONEY - the biggest motivator for any change.

First impression: YUK! ICK! ACK, PHOOEY! And SLOW! veeeeeerrrrryyyyy ssslllllloooooowwwwww. And as it loads up, stuff disappears, reappears...drives me NUTS. (Ok, short trip, but still...)

With one of the first posters on most of the comments--too bright, too much 'stuff' over on the side (reminds me of Yahoo news, and that's NOT a compliment). Much harder to see and read; one thing I loved about the old one was I could sit back and read it without my glasses on--this one, there's no way.

As people upgrade sites, there's something that seems to be lost in translation--that there are still those of us out here who are on dialup connections--lousy ones--and/or have older computers that just can't handle upgrading browsers, new platforms/programs that take more memory than we've got.... pages freeze, then suddenly go all over the place as what we were TRYING to do takes effect....

I mean, whaddya want us to do, spend money on something other than our chickens??!!

I know you guys worked really really hard on this, but....I'd have to rate it at first blush as a bad move for those without hotshot computers and bad eyes. :(

It's not an auction if all bids have to be visible. No longer will someone be able to put a max bid of 80$ and then let everyone else bid up to them. You're asking people to 'post a bid' of 1$ at a time in the hopes that they don't drain their pocketbook.

Remember the old bidding parties for the big auctions? Everyone posting and joking and watching the bidding go up? That was a HUGE aspect of the site!
