What do you think of the new BYC platform?

Not a fan it loads slow and I have some how lost my gold feather membership in the change over ?

I wouldn't want it back. I won't be renewing. I guess I can't get a partial refund?

All new things require a little bit of time to get used to. It looks more modern to me, like you are trying to appeal to a wider audience. Generally I like it... I imagine it will get faster. I think we all should appreciate the webmasters hard work!!

And I did love the cute chicken little!

Thank you for your thoughtfulness. Unfortunately, Chrome causes my job's software to become unstable & we are not allowed to have it on our systems with our company's software because something about file incompatibility or something.

I do think the improvements are awesome for people with fast computers. They rock! I think the site LOOKS fabulous, and the extra features are great. Don't get me wrong. I just can't use them. I clicked on one of the new features, to make a thumbs-up to someone's post, then a little window popped up for me to post a comment. When I went to close the window, it took it over a minute to close. It reminds me of the recent "improvements" to Facebook (another site where I can no longer spend much time because it causes my computer to stop, go, stop, go, freeze, warm up, stop, go because of all the background scripts that are running).

I guess it's just me and my computer. However, I feel pretty strongly, though, NONE of us should have to download new software to our computers just to go onto one website, when we have browsers that work perfectly fine for everything else but BYC. I know they probably figured in losing a handful of users, and until/unless we can afford a better, faster computer, Farmer_Lew and I will likely be among them.

Like I said... I'm just practically in tears because BYC has become such a big and important part of our backyard farming and chicken-rearing process, and now I cannot be on it like I used to because the upgrade is too much for my system. We'll still be around intermittently, and I have taken my lunch break to type all this and gotta get back to work now. But we just won't be able to participate as before, which makes me really sad.

I am using chrome and this sux monkey butt!!! and its not my computer because everything else is running fine... except BYC...

I just compared Facebooks white to craigslists white and to ebays white-- On my Monitor BYCs was the least birght white of them all. I can see the gray signature lines perfect as well.....
but i dont have any "conditions" and I have 20/20...

maybe the headaches are from the stress of learning to navigate a new style forum?

Just like you were entitled to your opinion when you fist said that you didnt like it either. Now you have changed your mind... good for you. But do we all have to be like you?
Personally, i dont like it either, because its too jumbled and crowded... to many things going on at once to follow..
But i'll get used to, as we all will... doesnt mean we cant have an opinion about it, especially us long term members.. that have supported BYC for many years.
But i've already told Nifty that when i was invited preview it in the sandbox a while back...
he respected our opinions, shouldnt you?

Likes:
• Hovering to see the first post of a topic.
• The knowledge the members share.

• Hovering over someone’s name to see threads started/all posts/profile.
• Ads relevant to the forum
• The option to reply at the bottom of the page rather than having to click reply to go to another page.
• When editing it appears within the post so you can still scroll up and down to view posts by others.

Dislikes:
• Large ads (ads are fine, but it feels like they’re the main focus rather than the forum.)
• Cluttered look
• Lack of “My BYC” page (Maybe I just don’t see them? I loved those pages!)
• “Recent Reviews” in the right-hand column. It just feels like it adds to the clutter.

Neutral:
• The options of bold, italics, and underline, etc. I usually type and for bold but this works, too.
• Clicking to add emotes rather than typing them (for example to put in a wink does not work.) I don't know if the last platform was like that, however.

Overall:
I realize I don’t have many posts under my belt but I’ve been a long time reader (and ad-clicker, haha) but it feels like the change could have been a lot better. I frequent forums and there are many out there that have a smoother look and better system of showing ads. BYC is a wealth of information but the changes feel more like a downgrade than an upgrade.

Exactly my point, too. Every other site I visit has no problem with my browser...... Why do I have to change all of my stuff???????? Makes no sense to me............

My gold feather membership appears to have disappeared too, and I just got it last month.

I love the changes to BYC, many cool options, and it does look nice. I DO appreciate all the hard work and planning that went in to it.

That said, I live in a remote area where high speed internet is not an option - really, it's not. We did get cellular internet, which gives a decent speed, but even at work where I have high speed, this is very difficult to use. I can't leave comments to pages, I just get the little moving bars like it's trying to load the comments. Same with when I scroll over forums, I get no dropdown, it just tries to load. I cannot view a lot of pictures for some reason. I just get a red X, but others can view them. The speed of this is a major obstacle. I guess I wasn't around when that survey took place, but like I said, it's very challanging on my work computer and my phone. Overall it's difficult to use.

I am certain these things are being worked on, and I don't want to be a big complainer. I am stating this because unless helpful criticism is given, we cannot make this better. I feel that people may leave BYC if it is this challanging for everyone to use. If it loads better and operates as it is intended, these options and this new look will make BYC AMAZING!!!
