What do you think the next move should be in Vacaville regarding backyard chickens?

As a side note, I researched emus, as councilman Mashburn brought up. There are no restrictions what so ever in the code about emus, as they are not classified as poultry, fowl, or barnyard animals. ;) Just a fun fact.

Yes, she was the lady with brown hair seated next to the city planner. She has already given her interpretation? I assume she said that chickens are not allowed on less than one acre lots. I honestly don't think anything will come of this without actually filing for a change of amendment and paying the fees.

I kind of think that might be the case. A clean, well kept coop with little to no flies and a healthy, small flock of quiet hens is not high on the priority list right now. I know I COULD be reported, but my best defense is to never give a reason.

I have no idea who or what you all are talking about. But I read the code you posted. According to that, you are allowed to keep chickens. But keep in mind that your city council members can vote in a new code. If I were you then I would keep my chickens until you are given a citation. At that point you go to court and a judge will side in your favor.(at least any honest one) At that point even if your council tries to change the law, you should be able to get a grandfather clause added in. The link above at the beginning of this thread should also give you some contacts for further actions. Good Luck

Josh, it's kind of a long story. Reader's Digest version is that there is ambiguity in our city code, some people are saying chickens are allowed, some are not. On Tuesday evening city council decided not to amend or research anything, including clarifying the current code. Basically we are back to square one because the code can be interpreted in different ways.

Thank you for your encouragement!
