Well a few of you were close. It is a horn and it is still attached to the animal it is on. Here she is.
She has had a horn since I found her 8 years ago. It was about the size of a dog claw and more attached to her head then. Now it has got quit large and really just hanging from the skin. The vet said damaged hair follicles can change into a horn in certain circumstances.
Many people are grossed out by it and say I should have it removed, but I figure as long as it doesn't hurt her than I'll leave it be. This is bad, but I'm not attached to this cat and would rather pay to have her put down If it starts to bother her than to pay even more to have this removed. I have thought about trying to band it like a goats horn, but I don't think that would work.
