No honey. We work full time and she is school full time. We come home and she leaves for school. It is a vicious circle and I think it is too harsh of a judgement to lump all people on welfare into the "lazy" category.
I don't know about THERE. But HERE they have FREE child care for low income families. So that 400 a week doesn't even enter into the situation. I am not saying everyone on welfare is lazy, but a lot of them are. We'd be a lot better off without it.
They have some subsidized programs here, but they are subpar at best. Welfare systems need to be exculpatory about their programs and the entire system needs to push toward education and employment. Which is hard to do when the trained people can't get jobs.
You are so right about that ! So many people have no clue about what is really going on with EBT cards.
10 Years ago I worked as a CS Manager in a grocery store in Charlotte, and every time I would see 2 to 3 bags of jumbo shrimps ($15-$20/bag) and 2 to 3 large bags of crab legs($20-$30/bag) on the conveyor belt I KNEW it's an EBT purchased. For many years I watched this and it use to make so mad. This was the time when I was not married, had no children, worked two jobs to save money for down payment on a house, counted every penny, and paid top taxes for a medium income with no CLAIMS. I dont know if the EBT right to purchase some food products has change any since then but I certainly dont consider jumbo shrimps and crab legs a survival food for those poor souls who are on Welfare.
I agree with all of EmtheFishLadys and some others in here. I believe only 10 to 20 percent of people who are on Welfare are truly deserving and need help, all the others are just parasites who are sucking up the system.
I think Congress , the House, & the Senate should be full of teachers, farmers, soldiers, welfare workers, housewifes, factory workers, college students, etc. NOT CROOKED POLITICIANS!
Here is what I think should be changed about welfare:
Mandatory drug testing quarterly.
Education in an industry that needs more people with no more than a year from graduation to find employment
Food stamps can no longer support Red Bull (yes it is true) - this is area where I will say that just because someone is poor doesn't mean they should never have a girls movie night - at least they aren't changing the food stamps for money (yes that happens too).
All recipients of welfare and food stamps need to be accountable to the government that is supporting them.
Is this realistic? Probably not, but a nice thought.

Yeah, he went to prison about 6 months after that.
He was in jail the whole time though. He was arrested the NEXT day.

Well, one HUGE hole in the system is that they INCREASE your benefits the less money you make. So, they are encouraging people NOT to work.

To become a politican, one must be motivated to help their constituents. Once reaching office, the smell of power overcomes them and then they become crooked.
The same would happen with teachers, farmers, soldiers (many of which are in office now), welfare workers, housewives, etc. Though I agree with your thought process!!!!
How about a professional chef for President? That would be TOOOO funny!
