What do YOUR guineas like to eat? (was guineas -- feeding, treats?)

White millett; hands down. I think its like a little chocolate treat for them. Mine liked tomatos too, so if you're having a garden, don't get them started on tomatos!

My goonie guineas eat anything that doesn't eat them first!

A friend of mine had Guineas for eons. His flock never bothered his plants in his garden. Then they began putting scraps from making salads and such out for the Guineas to snack on. The next year they went in to the vegetable garden and helped themselves to all of the stuff they had gotten as scraps. And yes, those powerful beaks opened up most of his melons.

Mine are allowed in to my vegetable garden when the plants are large enough to handle the traffic and where the plant doesn't appear to be a good thing to eat.

As to the millet, finding just white millet around here isn't going to happen. Ordering it is very expensive. What I found was wild bird food that has millet listed first in the type of seed in the bag. Its in something like a five pound bag. I've bought it in the past in 20 pound bags. Lasts forever.

I never thought about it being a problem to find; our feed store always has it in bulk. If you can't find it, the wild bird feed is almost as good; they pick through it to find the millett and begrudgingly eat the rest.

Yep, Wal Mart has one that has white millet, white millet and a touch of what looks like thistle. That's the one I find most consistently around here. TSC has one that is white & red with sun flower seeds. Mine eat both millets and leave the rest.
