After every 10 years of on-and-off chicken keeping, we finally encountered our first truly rotten egg. My son was making breakfast and was using eggs that were collected within the past 4 days, and one exploded as he cracked it, spewing a disgusting greenish black mess.
My question is, do I need to be concerned about anything being wrong with one of my hens, or is it more likely that this is just an old egg? My boys collect eggs daily, but i wouldn't say they are the most observant, and it es entirely possible that this egg was hidden in a nest for a while.
