What does "buff" mean regarding chickens?

I wonder why hatcheries (below is the stock photo from MPC) would call them Golden Buffs instead of one of the many other names considering they are neither large nor golden yellow.

And as long as we're talking about the many meanings of buff, in the wonderful world of MMORPG (online role-play games) a buff is a spell cast by a mage that adds a positive effect on a friendly target (such as increasing health or defense), likewise a debuff is a spell that causes negative effects on foes ... jus sayin

You aren't alone, I didn't know what buff was either but recently got two new Silkies..the breeder said they are blue and buff...to us they were champagne and flecked! Lots to learn!!

Buff is a color? Imagine that! So I guess that all of these people who have blue chickens, doesn't mean that their birds are depressed?
lol this is funny...is this an actual question??? (in no way am i trying to be mean just wondering since it hasn't been answered and you were really wanting to know or if you are truly joking)

A very simple answer I think!

If you'll look up Buff Orpingtons or Buff Rocks or whatever Buff kinda chicken you please and put 2+2 together that they are all yellowish-gold plumed the answer should be fairly self explanatory, I'd reckon.

When i said to someone that I had a "Buff Orpington" I could see the look of confusion on their face. They had that puzzled look and then said "sooooo does it work out a lot?" I laughed and pointed out that buff was the color, like my "buff laced polish." Buff being the color, laced being the color pattern, and polish being the breed.

It is a common confusion, mostly because in the "real" world, buff means big and muscley and not a color.

its a color =] you can find buff laced birds ect and not all orps are buff so if someone asks just say you have an orpington.

i was given some hatching eggs the other day some will be blue some will be splash and some will be buff (person separated them by color)

its kind of like someone walking up to you and telling you they have a red nosed pit bull. red nose isnt a breed its a nose color ask anyone in the show world or tell them that and they will give you this look (:hmm) all it is, is a color which is generally seen with that breed of bird like mille fleur d'uccle d'uccle is the breed and can come in other colors such as porcelain or lavender but it is more common to see mille fleur

I hear that all the time, and I've met people who think "Barred" is a breed.
